Beef Jerky Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) I love that a defense that was a top 5 unit in 2014 has to suddenly "climb." Prople need to stop crying about 2014... no injuries Mario was a little B word back then. Grow up... Edited June 2, 2016 by Beef Jerky
3rdand12 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I dont know man. Looked good there 2 years ago. You saw he said LEADER right Keep dareus at nose and I wonder where my money goes you were humming along when you wrote this weren't you ? : )
Big C Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I dont know man. Looked good there 2 years ago. Graham didn't play safety two years ago.
machine gun kelly Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I appreciate him taking personal responsibility for a change to Safety as it must have been an adjustment. He did a nice job two years ago at the nickel, and on the outside. I kind of wished we were able to get another veteran safety to move him back to the nickel, but maybe he feels he lost a step, and has mastered Safety. Either way, I like Graham and hope he is here for a couple of years. He'll probably also look a OT bette with a healthy Aaron Williams out there.
The Big Cat Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Graham would have been a better player if the team didn't go from 54 to 21 sacks, and put 100 million dollar linemen into pass coverage. Not that it's important mind you, but do ya think there will ever be one thing upon which we agree? So we know that safety play went down and so did sack total. We could reasonably view this as a chicken and egg scenario. Go ahead and choose which you think had a greater effect. I really don't care. I'll bet you were screaming at the TV all the times Wade dropped Von Miller into pass coverage too. This particular crusade has reached absurdity, even for you.

This particular crusade has reached absurdity, even for you. Dareus probably weighs over 100 pounds more than Miller, and is just not built for pass coverage. Btw, do you really want to tell the posters and readers of TSW that sacks were down more than 60% as a result of Corey Graham not playing so well. Not Rex mind you, Corey Graham???!!! Congrats for the dumbest post that I have ever seen on this wonderful site. If you have time (and I'm pretty sure you do), why not make us another color coated chart of stupidity and "prove" to us that Graham, not Rex is to blame for the demise of the defense. You really are a complete waste of time. I have only myself to blame for indulging your idiocy even for a few minutes.

Bill, after spending 3 more high picks on defense and another few more drafts, Rex will finally get the proper personnel to run his system! I hope Rex turns it around but it's laughable to rebuild a dominant defense in a couple years.

The Big Cat Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 your posts read the same way, brosef... except you put pretty pie charts to illustrate nothing. cuz rex sucks. You're welcome to interpret what I say or how I say it any way you like, but I def you to find any post where I outwardly call someone "stupid." I also don't relish in the TSW's discourse as some sort of life-affirming drum circle. And I certainly don't expect to have any real impact on someone via a virtual relationship about a football team. I'd happily spend time with anyone here in person, and I'm sure that would change our relationship quite a bit. But don't mistake my presence here as some kind of self-appointed band leader of the wisdom dispersion brigade. And thus don't equate my conduct or my attitude toward conduct, with his. If you had difficulty understanding the heat maps (I'll gladly repost them), you should ask for clarity rather than dismiss them. They're pretty straight forward. But I guess you didn't have trouble understanding them since you equated them to a perfectly easy to interpret--even with zero context--line graph. Lol there is no way this is a chicken and egg scenario. The Bills didn't pressure nor punish the QB in Rexs "neuter the defensive line" system, as a result the defense as a whole regressed. But this has no barring on the 2016 defense and season. Hoping Rex figured some things out. It was a simpler way of saying: everyone I watch games with, everyone I talk to about the Bills that isn't affiliate with this board and even mine own eyes tell me that Graham sucked last year. When the man who has made no qualms of his personal vendetta against DBs suddenly pipes up to support the one I'm critical of, it's best to just leave it alone.

3rdand12 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 so Graham moves to safety. Williams moved to safety. Blandon will be playing safety. I don't see anything but good here. Williams and Meeks and Anderson step the game up? Bills are very good to go.

This as been an interesting thread to follow, especially regarding the back-and-forth between Bill From NYC, and The Big Cat-- two posters with whom I have a lot of respect. But, I have asked the question, and finally just now looked it up to confirm: Corey Graham was our leading tackler last season. Before anyone starts shouting at me about how "meaningless statistics are," I consider them a useful tool in assessing performance, and production, but not an assessment in, and of themselves. To whit: Dolphins' leading tackler- Rashad Jones (SS): 106 tackles, 29 assists Jets' leading tackler: David Harris (ILB): 67 tackles, 4 assists Patriots'* leading tackler: Logan Ryan (CB): 58 tackles, 16 assists Bills' leading tackler: Corey Graham: 96 tackles, 31 assists. Now, I do understand that stats never paint the entire picture. But, how is it that a player who "sucked last year" was so productive? Edited June 3, 2016 by Rocky Landing

Basically, the idea is that Graham had so many tackles because the rest of the defense did not. Every open receiver that burned out LB's was eventually tackled by Graham after gaining 15 yards. Ditto for RB's who got to the second level. Every tackle that Dareus, Hughes, Mario, Bradham and Brown didn't make, Corey Graham did, after a decent gain.

CommonCents Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 It's hard to say CG had a bad season. The majority of what went on infront of him was dysfunctional so it's hard to be critical of a guy who was flying around to clean up the mess. The perfect example of this was the 2nd Pats game when Mario gave the back a free release into the flat and CG came from 25 yards away and missed a touchdown saving tackle.
thebandit27 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Graham did a nice job in run support, but the fact remains that the interior of the back-7 was atrocious against the pass. For all the heat the DL took last year, they largely did what was asked of them: control the LOS. The boundary corner play was excellent while Gilmore was healthy, and good thereafter. The safeties and LBs simply couldn't cover their zones and make the underneath tackles, which are foundational tenets of Rex's scheme
