A foot for a WR is always a concern. Dez came back, wasn't the same and had another procedure. Edelman came back and just went for his second procedure and is now in a walking boot. Julio Jones had a bunch of complications before he came back. Durant had 3 surgeries on his broken foot. One good thing here is the same surgeon that worked with Julio is now working with Sammy, hopefully that helps. Biggest thing is he needs to rest and let it heal fully, heck stay out until Sept. don't rush back.

Wonder how much these aging field turf surfaces are contributing to these types of injuries.

Note that the Bills are the only team in the NFL to use the A-Turf Titan field turf product. "A-Turf" is a company based in Cheektowaga, NY.

Buffalo likes to draft guys out of the SEC, where just about all the surfaces are grass. That said, the artificial surfaces in the NFL are much more sticky than natural grass. I'm not surprised to see these guys pulling up lame at the Ralph as often as they do. That TD catch Sammy had last season, nobody around him, but his foot stuck to the turf and he suffered a severe injury. That injury wouldn't have happened on grass.

He'll be able to play, but don't be surprised if it affects him in some way (explosiveness, etc.).

Yep. I'm not so sure if Woods will be at 100% either. Salas will have to pick up the slack.

He's only started every game in 50% of the seasons he's played. It's literally a coin flip if he'll play every game this year.

Yes a crooked coin.

Seriously, if the player's association cared about their members careers, what they'd go after is turf. Linemen hate it. It's just nasty, nasty stuff. These days with ground heaters and retractable roofs and so on teams could do a lot better job maintaining natural grass fields even in northern climates.

We should install the Carl Spackler hybrid, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia.

On Sammy Watkins' foot surgery (reported by @TyDunne): He played thru stress fractures last year, surgery done a few weeks ago.

Watkins' surgery to insert a screw was performed by Robert Anderson. Expected recovery time is 6-8 weeks. Hope is he's a go for camp.

The first sentence is a lot more concerning than the recent surgery. Played through stress fractures - PLURAL - last season!? Among my concerns:

- that Watkins had more than one stress fracture in his feet last season (that seems very bad, exactly how many?)

- that he was allowed to play on those fractures after the Bills were eliminated from the playoffs (why?)

- that him continuing to play on the fractures may have led to needing this surgery (bad situation gets made worse)

Hmmm how would the Bills add a retractable roof and even if they could would the NFLPA chip in one percent of income to do it - never!

Ground heating will not work with current stadium, obviously the NFLPA will be first in line to buy PSLs for new stadium!

if it was an issue for him he could have had surgery in February or even January but maybe that would have taken away from his casino trip with buds?

A bunch of people with no insight into why or why not Sammy Watkins had surgery when, or even how it escalated into needing surgery, and then implying that he did it to the detriment of the team. This is why the negative people are widely disregarded. Get a grip.

How bout, why wasn't the surgery done sooner?

Like February? Lol.

Also a fair point. Maybe they tried to let them heal on their own and one wouldn't heal properly? That's all I can think of.

He wasn't playing in a game.

This is certainly unfortunate. Why did it take four weeks for the Bills to announce this? It's actually good it happened weeks ago since he's having time to heel. But foot injuries can, at times, not heal properly or reoccur and have to be redone and redone. Ask Grant Hill.
