Deranged Rhino
Long rumored, but written off as "conspiracy"... Funny how that works. Regardless, this is yet another black eye for the CIA. So buckle up folks for the release of another shameful chapter of backwards and downright despicable of American intervention gone wrong. ************************** Nelson Mandela's arrest in 1962 came as a result of a tip-off from an agent of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a report says. The revelations, made in the Sunday Times newspaper, are based on an interview with ex-CIA agent Donald Rickard shortly before he died. Mr Mandela served 27 years in jail for resisting white minority rule before being released in 1990. He was subsequently elected as South Africa's first black president. The interview appears to confirm long-held suspicions that Mr Mandela was being trailed by the CIA, says the BBC's Karen Allen in Johannesburg. It is expected to put pressure on the CIA to release documents about its involvement in Mr Mandela's arrest and support for the apartheid government, although it has resisted previous calls for their disclosure. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-36296551
sodbuster
The worst part about this is that it isn't even the worst thing that the CIA has tried to do.

It's not that they forget, it's that it doesn't fit the narrative, so they were never taught it. Mandella was a communist terror supporter durring the Cold War. That's why the CIA tagged him. DC Tom
One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. Siding with the most deplorable of regimes in South Africa was good for business though, so yay USA. Yes, and a terrorist one day is a freedom fighter the next. But let's judge decisions in the context of 50 years after the fact, rather than the contemporary situation. And the US was fighting against South Africa at that point. The Angolan wars were a massive cluster-!@#$. Funny think is how relevant they've been to foreign policy the past six months, too...

Ya know, for someone that preaches libertarian freedom, you sure seem to be on the wrong side of the issue of freedom when it comes to black folks. First the South and their slave system seems a good cause for you, heck, it was a freedom fight! And now the evil apartheid system is better than a person fighting against it. TakeYouToTasker
Only the least educated, or most insidiously revisionist could possibly look at US foreign policy, and the geo-political canvas in the early 1960's and conclude that the CIA tipped off the arrest of Nelson Mandela because of Apartheid. On the technology and oppression front. IBM helped the government track and monitor the black majority in South Africa and helped send many into the hellish prisons. DC Tom
Wow, you shouldn't call other people stupid! That's really dumb Tom. IBM made computers. South Africa used computers to register and track blacks. Ergo, you claim that IBM is complicit in apartheid. So why aren't machete makers complicit in the Rwandan genocide? And your point is? Oh, that's right you probably do not have one...So you defend an SS murderer Joachem Peiper--yes Tom, he was just misunderstood...and mandela was a communist so bad.
