Buffalo Barbarian Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I've watched every season and really enjoy the whole Russian Spies playing as Americans. But a few things in the storyline don't make sense. What purpose does the Korean make-up lady serve? I don't see where she has any access to secret government info. Also Last night Elizabeth (Keri Russell) pretends to sleep with her husband and then goes home and says to Phillip "I'm going to miss her". How in the world is "sleeping" with her husband going to keep her from her? It's not like he is going to say anything? And if he wont allow Liz over because of the incident, couldn't she have found an easier way to break off the friendship? Then after that she is in her room looking through VHS tapes and some porn comes up and she fast forwards through it and then the scene is over. What the hell was that about and what purpose does it add to the show? What happened to the blond girl that Phil was doing every thing he could to not sleep with her? It seemed like she was still useful to get info from her father due to his government position. But know she's written out of the show just like it never happened? Still love the show just wondering if any one else watches it and has some ideas on this.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 C'mon nobody, yall talk religiously about Saul and Thrones but know Americans !?

Deranged Rhino Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 i keep telling myself that i'm going to start watching The Americans, but never actually get around to it Same here. And it's right up my alley in terms of genres that I like. One day I'll binge on the whole series and I'm sure I'll dig it.

The Avenger Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I love The Americans (must be a metal thing).... I was wondering the same thing about Don and I'm not sure that they've really played up why he's important. I think he may work in the lab with all the nasty virus stuff and they need him so the other guy can get the level 4 access to the really nasty stuff. It certainly has been a slow developing story line and they haven't been very good about explaining why they are targeting this woman and her husband. They were looking to find dirt on Don, but couldn't find anything to blackmail him with (only found a porno tape) - that's why they had to setup the encounter. Great trick with the lotion while Don was passed out - nice touch, huh? As for the high school girl, I think Phillip got some good stuff by planting the recorder in her father's briefcase, but that was kind of the end of the storyline (and let's face it, they were getting pretty close to showing Phillip seducing an underage girl - that's a little too messed up to show on TV).

Phillip & Elizabeth broke her bones to fit her in a suitcase to get the body out of the Pakistani's hotel room. Liz is friends w/ the Korean lady to get Level 4 clearance for William. Korean lady's hubby works at the same bio lab. Now that she'll be blackmailing the hubby, the friendship will end. And it's pretty much the only American friend that she has. Not sure what the point of finding the porn was. Possibly it gave her the indication that the only way to blackmail Don was to do him (or as the case may be, fake doing him). Oooops, sorry, forgot about the HS girl. Described the wrong one for you. Edited May 14, 2016 by Taro T

I'm pretty sure she watched the porn well after she "slept" with him. lol about the lined out part, so any info about the teenager.
unbillievable Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I'm still confused how they can do all of that stuff without the wig falling off.

Buffalo Barbarian Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Spoiler alert: Keri Russell is so friggin hot Eh

The "Breeland bug" & the Korean lady were the 2 operations still on-going during Phil & Liz' "vacation." Would be very surprised if that storyline doesn't pick back up.

Wonder if her dad telling her about CIA means he knows his daughter is up to something and is looking to see what info she may spill to "friends".
Taro T Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 right on cue, can't believe they waited this long to bring her back to the show. Wonder if her dad telling her about CIA means he knows his daughter is up to something and is looking to see what info she may spill to "friends". Just saw last week's episode. (For some reason it didn't record until the rebroadcast last night.) I doubt he's trying to catch his daughter in spying on him. It'd be easier (& probably more effective) to put some fake info out if he thinks someone is trying to play or turn her. But it was a good move by Phillip to have her keep dad's secrets. He can get 'em all 1st hand from dear old dad himself. No sense/need for having the dad have reason to not trust her. Plus, foolish teen probably feels even closer to Phillip knowing he "cares" about her relationship w/ her father. Can't see how they can get more than 1 more season out of this show. There's just too many ways for their cover to get blown. Be interesting to see Paige's reaction to knowing her mother murders people. Seems that somehow will lead to Paige either becoming a spy herself or more likely cause her to push Alice to turn them in. Maybe she turns from them all? Not sure how she stays straddling her love of her family, country, and pacifistic church for much longer.

Taro T Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Would love to see Paige join the CIA and secretly spy on her parents (evil laugh) Paige was starting to tell mommy that Matthew could be a source. Now that mom killed a mugger that had the audacity to touch Paige, & Paige sees mom & dad Iin a different light, maybe she starts to open up to Matthew instead. Stan's rage when he realizes that Phillip directly killed Amadore & ruined Martha's & John Boy's lives would be epic. And to think, Phillip & Elizabeth only had ~5-1/2 years to go to irrelevance in their primary field (KGB spies) & a smidge more than a decade to go to irrelevance in their 2ndary field (travel agents). If they'd find a way to reach retirement age, they could do it w/ clear consciences knowing there was nothing left for them to do.
