Like A Mofo
this is not the point, we are talking here about a stupid american journalist, that does not mean we don't have any in France. In fact we have a lot! But don't except any kind of international sympathy with that kind of guy writing stuff like this. 249441 Stupid American journalist? BilltheCat
Feel free to rebut it point by point, then. 248432 Personally I have no problem with the CRTC 35% content rule although I would suggest a review of the policy to ensure that you actually understand the definition of Canadian content. Protecting and encouraging national talent is difficult when your neighbor has such a population advantage, as Darin attested to. Although not a fan of Canadian "pop" music, if Rush qualifies as such for you, so be it. As far as crime, although these sites are statistically-based research and not nearly as conclusive as a survey, they do support some aspects of the claims as well as dispel others. http://www.cfc-ccaf.gc.ca/pol-leg/res-e v a l...s/default_e.asp http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/011218/d011218b.htm Martin is not a complete idiot. That is really the only positive comment I can make in his regard. At this point I am not entering into a debate on health care. Since no affluent American has ever experienced a problem with your system, I am certain most others agree that it is perfect as well. Censorship. I cannot imagine we could be more conservative that GWB but you never know. I do know that I would not attempt to rebut the vigorously researched and thoroughly documented sources cited by the author at hand. Gay marriage does not matter to me but if I had the ambition I am certain I could find surveys & polls (being fine instruments of objective viewpoint that they are) that would claim the opposite. However, I do not wish to sit with my "finger" on Google waiting for an opportunity to show all that will listen the level of "my" intelligence. We could both find fact to make the other look better but why? I'm a proud Canadaian my wife is a proud American and we learnd long age that we don't talk about which is better . USA is like an elephant and Canada is like a mouse. We have to watch when the elphant moves so we don't get sqeezed to death. Radio has to have a % Canadian or will get sqeezed to death. and now for a joke to my fellow North Amaricans SOCIAL SECURITY SEX: Two men were talking. "So, how's your sex life?" Guest RabidBillsFanVT
If you want to be just as 'educated' as John Leo on Canada, here are a lot of links that explain a lot of differences: Firearm/non-firearm homicide crime comparison COMPLETELY flies in the face of Leo's statistics... he used them in a very narrow sense, COMPLETELY avoiding the other statistics. Environmental ranking Canada is down there, but who's at the bottom? I won't ignore studies that show Canada has problems, unlike Mr. Leo about the US. Health Care Study Take the views of Canadians versus Americans, and see who is more happier with their health care. Look at the study numbers of everything else; it's not just DRUG COSTS, Mr. Leo! Ignoring the US problem. Live longer up north, obesity Look at the lessened health risk and higher lifespan average. Curious. I'd say Mr. Leo needs to look again at the overwhelming evidence against his claims! I have seen this bashing before... and unlike Mr. Leo's opinion, Canadians do have every right to tell him that he is WRONG, no matter if he was a Canadian journalist or not! You don't need a 1st amendment to have free speech in Canada.

It's their country afterall. 254389 Although from an entirely different perspective, I agree with you. I have little intention of defending Canadian domestic policy just as I have no intention of criticizing American domestic policy. That is one (and only one) of the reasons national sovereignty exists - we respect an individual nation's right to determine their policies, laws, cultural and religious obsessions, etc. It is also the only reason that I might question the US foreign policies in other countries. As far as common defense goes, it is somewhat irrelevant because in the final analysis we exist on the same continent and whether we like it or not, our similarities far outweigh the differences that we continually raise. We will find common ground that will be acceptable to both nations with respect to common defense policy. A minority government in Canada at this time makes that all but impossible for the interim. I would definitely agree that Canadian national defense is Canada's problem.

I have numerous friends in Canada who are dear friends, and they don't deserve this outrageous bashing by someone who wants to look like the big and bad American. Canada is a very wonderful place to me that I enjoy visiting every time, since I am only 30 minutes from Quebec. If someone wants to move to Canada, it is their right, as was the MILLIONS of immigrants who moved to the United States. The NERVE of this Leo character! Plus, you burn alot of calories when you're having sex - and they're getting bent over by their government at every turn.
