2016 NFL Draft's impact on the league pecking order?

With the 2016 NFL Draft in the rear-view, we have a clear picture of what rosters will look like across the league in the coming season. Consequently, Elliot Harrison has updated his hierarchy.

BILLS

Thumbs up to the # BillsMafia. Your team pieced together a draft class that has the potential to push Buffalo into the playoff heap. I recapped the Bills talented haul immediately after the draft, and a few days later, I feel at least 50-50 that Rex Ryan's group will be in the 10-win range. Much depends on the quarterback. Oh, and Buffalo can't get swept by the Patriots or lose to both the Seahawks and Cardinals. Essentially, the Bills need to beat a quality team that isn't the Jets this year. Still, there's no question Ryan's defense has the requisite oomph.

18 BUF.png They addressed defense early in the draft, which was the right thing to do. They're still a ways away from competing with the Patriots.

Thanks brah. Nice find, its cool to know they ranked us high enough to make the playoffs, I think we have the talent, **** we had the talent last year too but this year the sched is ruff so a wild card birth depends on the right guys staying healthy and the coaching taking a step forward. They should give TT the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half each pre-season game and let him work on the 2 minute drill with real bullets flying. If the coaching doesnt work with TT on the 2 minute drive and prepare him well enough to call his own plays at the line and Peyton Manning that ****, its gonna be a real up-hill fight to get a wild card. Good teams can always make up for mistakes with solid 2 minute drives, that was really missing last year.

Marty, not that I care about power rankings as they are just for fun and filler in a slow news cycle,Mobutu you said ranked for playoffs. I'm sure it's something I'm missing but 6 AFC teams make the playoffs and we were ranked 8th in the AFC ON THE ONE RANKING, 14th overall, and 18th on the other.

Let's hope they are wrong.

They're meaningless, but for whatever reason, it does feel better to be ranked in the top half of the league. Mainly, it validates the positive vibes at OBD and it's not just, "drinking the koolaid." To some extent anyway.

"Meaningless" is definitely the word that comes to mind when talking about power rankings at this point in the off season.

About as meaningful as 2017 mock drafts are right now.

I'm surprised Pete didn't have us in the lower tier, like 24-27 per usual. I'm sure his Cowgirls are top ten though.

Not true. I have the Bills going 16-0, and smashing the Pats this year

ESPN NFL Power Rankings: Post-draft Edition

After adding a few pieces on offense, our NFL experts see the Patriots as the best team in the league in 2016. After that? Carolina holds steady at No. 2, while the Packers move up a few spots.

19. Buffalo Bills

2015 record: 8-8

Post-free agency ranking: No. 21gn-arrow.png

When the most interesting thing about your offseason is a Ryan Brothers reunion, that's ... well, that's actually kind of awesome. But is it enough to prevent a 17th straight season out of the playoffs? Probably not.

ESPN Insider: Vegas Ranks All 32 NFL Teams
Following the NFL draft, Dave Tuley and Chalk's group of Vegas handicappers rank all 32 teams. The Dallas Cowboys are on the rise, while the Denver Broncos fall several spots.

13. (tie) Buffalo Bills (22)

Rex Ryan was supposed to inherit and improve a solid defense last season in Buffalo. That didn't happen, as the Bills ranked 20th with 356.4 yards allowed per game and 15th at 22.4 points allowed; that's not terrible, but it was worse than expected. So the Bills signed seven defensive free agents in the offseason and took DE Shaq Lawson and LB Reggie Ragland with their first two draft picks.

Buffalo Bills
Weird few days for the Bills. GM Doug Whaley said that “personally, I don’t think humans are supposed to play” football; the Bills’ PR staff put the kibosh on any media reports from OTAs; and the team revealed that first-round pick Shaq Lawson would be out several months with a shoulder issue. That last note is a huge one, because the Bills are once again short a pass rusher to team with Jerry Hughes.
