Indeed--there's very little cap room to be gained from cutting him after 2016, so he's virtually guaranteed to be here through then (barring a career-ending injury, of course).

Agreed. Same with 2017. They'd only save 1 million from cutting him while eating 8 million in dead cap -- more reasonable than this year, especially with the amount of cap room they're projected to have but it's still a long shot. Then, after that, it gets much easier for the Bills to walk away.

Sorry, that's what I meant--he's here through the 2017 season, after which time it would be a significant savings to let him go.

so I think it best we all just accept that fact

Again you are incorrect. They will not be "paying him a lot not to be a Bill" -- have you looked at his contract? It's structured to be very easy to walk away from him after the 2017 season, just as he is closing in on 30 years of age.

ohhh after 2017 they won't have to pay him anything because it was structured that well?

we have no choice but to accept that. And while hindsight says it was a good trade for gain/loss net value. But, now we are paying for it. We have 3 good backs on the roster not named McCoy. We could have drafted another earlier. Saved money, kept a LB who would be depth at worst, or just trade for a 4th? 5th?

Sure, McCoy will do things that will be amazing next year. But so would other backs. Look at Gillislee.

McCoy was not a factor in the most important games.

It helps to look at the contract before you try to rail against it. Man, step your game up, Boyst. You're takes have been hot garbage lately.

anything over $3mm cap hit for a RB that's going to be over 30 is too damn much.

This is why you draft EB's and never give them a second contract. They're never worth OT.

Agree to disagree if you'd like. But we can wait until 2018 and watch McAvoy and judge then

He won't be "over 30" until the 2019 season.

Unless you consider the seconds after turning 30 to be "over 30," in which case, technically you'd be correct.

Yes McCoy has ability other backs don't and he is a top ten back. And if this was madden or the circumstances were different he is damn good. But we are going to pay him a lot not to be a Bill in a few years. We are going to see his production drop off. He isn't a utility back nor a true down field threat catching. He can make stuff happen. But he's nor worth the price

he may not be worth the price next year if Williams plays well, and if we need to sign TT to a long term deal. But for 2016-17, he is absolutely worth it.

I have been wondering this. What's with the tacking on of years? Gillislee is getting up there too! Best not get too attached. I can't believe Karlos Williams is almost 26 either. Why would they draft such an old man?

LOL, today is actually Karlos Williams 23rd birthday.

But for real, in 18 months he'll be almost 25. #doomed

he's fantastic to watch play and he's not robbed the cap enough to prevent other significant roster moves.

I'm sure they can cut and run if he drops off, but what's the harm in allocating cap to a phenomenal back and receiver when your QB is nearly free and you've re-signed all the big players you sought.

Again, fellas, think about the original question only and stop getting ahead of yourselves.

4.88% of this year's cap. Less than 1/20th (there are 22 offensive and defensive starters). For a superstar RB.

It's been entertaining following this.

It's been something alright. Lot of hardheaded gillisllie fans here.

If Shady is healthy this year hes gonna tear the league to shreds....im thinkin 1500+ yards and 10 total TDs. This guy has a huge ego and he needs to feed it, all the off season bull and doubts combined with an injury filled first year in Buffalo are fueling his fire.

I too think McCoy will have a big year 2016. Looking forward to it.
