Doc Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 105451341565437568769567% agree. it won't last long. It really boggled my mind when they announced it. They had been emphasizing player safety, namely injuries on returns, and then implement a rule which everyone (else) knows will make teams shy away from trying for touchbacks. Dumb.
Sisyphean Bills Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Still stupid to pick the kicker that high. OK, you got it dialed in with that.
mannc Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 How can you say the second round has not been good to the Bills over the years? Thurman Thomas Cordy Glenn Aaron Williams Robert Woods Ronald Darby Aaron Schobel One HOF player and five very solid contributors - this is just off the top of my head there are probably more. I never said that. The last seven fourth rounders have all proven to be decent NFL players and are all still in the league. At least two of our second rounders in that time were/are complete washouts. At least one first rounder too.
Marty McFly Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 A kicker having trouble with distance so may need to sign a kickoff specialist. is that true? if so that sucks I thought Agyano was the 'do it all' type of kicker.
26CornerBlitz Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Didn't see this one coming. Connor Barth cut after Bucs draft kicker in second round
Mr. WEO Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) A K in 2nd round and you would be ok with that? You disagree with everything and everyone on this board and you would have no problem with a K in 2nd round......where is the guarantee he is a sure thing? Leaving aside the obvious incorrect bold statement, Sure--why not? Look at what the Bills have wasted 2nd round picks on. This guy just has to be really good at kicking PATs and FGs, and he is. Look at the misery the Bucs have had at kicker. I'm betting the new KO rule will be changed after the season when they realize it's leading to more returns and thus more chances for injuries. Which is opposite of what they want to see happen. This won't happen. The likelihood that every NFL kicker will now do something he has never had to do before after every score---from a tee, drop a kickoff within the 10 yard line without it rolling into the EZ (worse, OOB)--is really not a feasible proposition. It's as likely that the rule will be struck because there are few to no returns anymore and coaches complain. Edited May 2, 2016 by Mr. WEO

Yeah, that's not even close to reality. They try all sorts of kicks. Long one. Short squib kicks. Onsides kicks. And yes kicks that go just before the endzone. And what they will do to try to prevent the ball from going OOB is kick it towards the middle. And returns will increase. So IOW, yes it will happen.
Augie Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 They routinely went for high kicks with good hang time that had to be returned. Nice strategy if you can pull it off (without getting a flag thrown, which might be how we'd do it).

And what you are describing is neither of those.
3rdand12 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Didn't see this one coming. Connor Barth cut after Bucs draft kicker in second round Stand up guy though, that Barth. and i really do not feel bad about Ragland anyways. I would like to see the Bills have better overall kicking with just one kicker though
Doc Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 How many of those doc? And what you are describing is neither of those. How many quib and onsides kicks do they practice? Couldn't tell you since I don't usually watch kickers in practice. To claim they never or even rarely practice them is silly. They know how to kick the ball. They'll adapt for the rule this year. And then when the NFL sees that more KO's were returned, they'll junk the rule change.

Yeah we used to have a kicker who was known for kicking coffin corner kicks.
26CornerBlitz Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Yeah we used to have a kicker who was known for kicking coffin corner kicks. That's an old punting technique that seems to be a lost art in today's NFL.
