DC Tom
A 1953 $2 bill? She probably spent a silver certificate, worth $10 or so.
Saxum
It is maybe worth $3 in very good condition. Not surprised that Texas police are under trained in this sort of stuff since Texas tends to create laws without accounting for cost sort of like the Federal Government Texans complain about. Remember: We actually lost war with Mexico and had to take Texas despite what history books say.

ChevyVanMiller
I hate this new trend of schools calling in the police for matters that should be handled internally. A $2 bill, seriously? What a tremendous waste of police man hours.

What a tremendous waste of police man hours. you're neglecting that the police officer was already there. after columbine all schools ended up getting an "SRO" (student resource officer). i grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood in ohio and we had an officer the very next day and there is still one there. every school in my county here in nc has one. a full time sheriffs deputy assigned to the school in the county's district and city officers per the two city districts. we are the only county in the state that has three independent school districts. unbillievable
A restaurant by me gives it's change in the form of $2 Bills. I'm guessing they employ many servers only working there to pay for college. When you have people trying to buy stuff with Million dollar bills, it's not too far-fetched to think they'll be suspicious of a $2.

When you have people trying to buy stuff with Million dollar bills, it's not too far-fetched to think they'll be suspicious of a $2. There was an incident down here years ago (15 or so?) where a guy was in a fight with Best Buy over some $150 charge or another. He eventually tried to pay...with 75 $2 bills. The people at Best Buy called the cops, the cops arrested him for counterfeiting. Guy spends night in jail, Secret Service shows up in the morning, looks at the evidence, and says "What the !@#$ is wrong with you people? Haven't you ever seen a $2 bill before?" Don't remember how it ended up ultimately, but the guy was suing Best Buy for some six figures or so...

Cops have been in schools since long before Columbine. Maybe not in West Bumphuck Carolina, but in urban settings cops and metal detectors have been part of the system for decades

Here is news story on Best Buy arrest: http://www.wnd.com/2005/04/29732/ Secret Service agent Leigh Turner eventually arrived and declared the bills legitimate, adding, according to the police report, “Sometimes ink on money can smear.” Edited May 2, 2016 by Koolaid
