On Washington, from WalterFootball, sounds like a great quality pick in the 3rd round:

Summary: In 2015, all the attention was on Joey Bosa because of what he did during Ohio State's National Championship run in 2014, but Washington was arguably the Buckeyes most consistent defensive lineman last fall.

. . . As a senior, Washington recorded 49 tackles with seven tackles for a loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and a pick-six. Bosa had all the attention, but on a weekly basis, Washington was causing havoc at the line of scrimmage.

At the Senior Bowl, Washington had an impressive week. He dominated the first practice, killing the offensive linemen in the one-on-ones with explosion out of his stance, speed to close, strength to shed blocks and speed-to-power. In the following days, Washington wasn't as overwhelming, but he still won a lot of reps and was very tough on offensive lineman. . . .

As a pro, Washington will be on the field to get after the quarterback. With his quickness at the point of attack and ability to get to the signal-caller, he has Pro Bowl potential and could produce quality sack totals in the NFL.

. . . Washington is on the bubble of the first and second round.

Sounds like a pick with a pretty high ceiling if they can get him to be a "pro" and give 100% effort, all the time.

I haven't particularly evaluated Washington, but he did flash a few times on the videos I looked at for some of the other Ohio State players. This pick is very simple for me. The guy has been drafted to replace Kyle Williams. 2016 will be Kyle's last year as a Bill and maybe last year in the league. Washington gives them some necessary depth for 2016 - they lost Charles and Carrington - and I expect that by 2017 he will be a starter. He isn't the nose tackle that I know a lot think we needed, but he is a defensive tackle who can apply pressure up the middle.

As for those crying out for offense.... I didn't have a single wide receiver as value at that pick. Kenny Lawler is the next of two remaining receivers on my board and I had him higher than Braxton Miller. I did think they might trade back in the 3rd and target a receiver towards the end of the round, but if they were picking at their spot there was not a receiver that made sense for me. The offensive players that might have made sense were Westerman at guard or Murphy at tackle.

I think he's a prototype 5-tech.

I don't see much potential for him to play the nose until he adds significant bulk to his lower body--right now he's top-heavy.

He's got really good length and decent power.

I'd still be looking for a DJ Reader type later.

Side note: cannot fathom what NE saw to make them pick Vincent Valentine in the 3rd round. To me, he's a less effective, less athletic, lazy version of DJ Reader that should've been a 6th rounder.

Of course, they may have scored huge with Cyrus Jones in the 2nd, so there's that.

Gunner - I agree this was a better pick given the talent available at that pick. We now have three very talented players in the front 7 to mold, and with these last 4 picks we stay close to the board in BPA. If you keep getting influenced by need in the later rounds you might just get a guy, vs. finding the most talented person.

Overall, I'm very happy with the draft. Now they have to prove it in camp.

as a fan watching the games he's always played at a high level. On the film they say he isn't passionate on 1st and 2nd down which in college is almost always run plays. In the NFL it's more passing so I think he will be a nice chess piece. IMO he's round 1-2 guy based on college career but dropped due to combine performance and the late suspension. He didn't have any other off field issues that I know of

Urban Meyer on NFL Network said he's a DT with a DE skillset. He sounds exactly like the type of lineman Rex covets.

sounds exactly like a younger version of Kyle honestly when you put it that way. And make no mistake about it, he will eventually be his replacement. Give it 1 year at most. Probably less considering Kyles recent injury issues. Every year the last few years he's been pretty banged up.

Best post thus far!

Anyone who watched the AFC Championship game and Super Bowl last season knows that the key to Denver's defensive success was the incredible interior penetration they were getting on passing downs. Von Miller is a beast but he was absolutely the beneficiary of the tremendous play by the Broncos' defensive tackles. They were terrific.

Do people not realize that defensive line rotational players see 25-35 snaps a game? They play a LOT...probably more than any other reserve players save Nickel CB and slot WR...nobody remembers how we got pissed late in games when we had rotational players in on the DLine that couldn't stop the run and kept giving up first downs?

Solid pick...this D is getting nasty

Good move, maybe not the bap but he can do many things well. Better D.

it sounded like he was the best player on their board.. But starting today Whaley said they may go off their board a bit and draft for places of need depending on how things fall.
