Whew, good thing we don't have him! . We have Rex Ryan who is an excellant game day manager. No worry's about play off fails either. he hasn't sniffed them in at least 6 years.

I don't think there is a law that says the Bills have to pick only among the worst current game day HCs....

Of course you do. You couldn't name a better candidate or even put together a list of potential candidates, but you KNOW theres one available and one who would actually be interested in the Bills job. Classic birddog.

The above perfectly encapsulates your entire world view.

yup, "can we do better?" is my world view. hell, it's my life view. more often than not, the answer is "yes, we can". for many years and in many , many areas this has been painfully true for this nfl franchise. why is whaley any different? he's a vestige of one of the worst owner/management groups in the history of modern professional sports. why wouldn't someone better be interested in the job? why are bills fans like you so ready to settle for just ok or even worse?

he's done a lot of good.

keeping boobie dixon over fred was a horrible call, other than that I like his moves.

definitely will help him if Miller makes some strides at RG from weak to mediocre this year. He didn't grade out very well as a rook.

Jaguars, Raiders and Bills can't beat 'em, so they're aiming to be them

The Raiders, Jaguars and Bills have zero playoff wins in approximately 487 seasons. All three have histories containing some level of defensive success but all three have been relatively devoid of quality defensive players in year

Buffalo, led by defense-based Rex Ryan, swooped up Shaq Lawson, a consensus top-12 pick leading into the draft, at No. 19 overall, and backed that pick with Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland in the second round.

He gave up too much to move 8 spots and get a base defense LB. Shaq fell into his lap and he didn't screw it up. He pciked the worng time to move up and the wrong player to go get.

until we start making and winning in the playoffs he hasn't done nothing yet.

I trust Doug Whaley more than most, and know he'll do the best for the Bills tonight, tomorrow, Saturday, and down the road. Here's the context for Draft Day.
Over 2 years, Whaley has improved Bills coaching, with Greg Roman, Rex Ryan, Rob Ryan, and newbie Pro Bowler Ed Reed. His best coach signings may be veterans John Blake the new DL Coach and David Lee the Quarterback Whisperer.
He scooped up a mobile quarterback in Tyrod, re-signed a Pro Bowl LG Incognito, traded for Top 3 RB Shady McCoy, outbid rival Fins for Charles Clay.
In the 2015 draft, he got 3 starters out of a measly 6 picks, (CB Darby, OG Miller, RB Karlos) none of whom were a 1st-rounder.
He cut a grousing superstar in Mario Williams, but re-signed speed rusher Jerry Hughes, extended Kyle Williams and Corbin Bryant, claimed Enemkpali, and signed T.J. Barnes (6'6", 364 lbs) to free Dareus to move to 5-tech. The draft will bring in a power rusher and another inside guy for depth.
He added depth on offense, including Touchdown Mike Gillislee, James Wilder Jr at RB, and WRs Hankerson, Salas, Little, and solid OC/OG Velasco,
He added depth on defense, including D-Linemen Edwards, Valles, and Reed, WILB Zach Brown, LB Lorenzo Alexander, CB Sterling Moore, CB Corey White, and S Colt Anderson. He extended Gilmore for a year to ensure he's fully recovered before signing him long-term, he signed vet DB Javier Arenas for a 1-year term as insurance, and extended CB Mario Butler.
He had all picks signed by training camp last year.
He made unpopular but necessary cuts (FredEx whose numbers had declined for 3 years, Chandler, Boobie Dixon).
He dealt with 22 different injuries to starters in 2015 (Watkins, Harvin, McCoy, Karlos, Aaron Williams, Cierre Wood, Goodwin, Deonte Thompson, etc.).
He franchised LT Cordy Glenn while they work on Glenn-Gilmore contracts in a more cap-friendly year.
We're about to experience Whaley's ability once again to make the Bills better. Watch for a trade, a "WTF" pick that makes sense later on, passing on "your guy" that got all the buzz and picking a guy we didn't discuss, and a pick at an already-deep position that pans out yet again.
All Hail Doug Whaley!

agreed. finally, the days of "bring in a czar" (donahoe, polian, others) are put to bed.. just get a super ex scout who knows what he is doing and loves scouting and finding talent... thats all you need

 How many 4th round picks become starters in their first (or second, or third) seasons?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this trade. Nothing.

USA Today ranked Whaley 24th best....not good enough

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/04/ranking-2016-nfl-general-managers

His ranking will move up dramatically as soon as he finds a QB.

Really!!! They have the 49ers, Jets and Eagles GMs rated higher than Doug Whaley?? There are more head scratchers in the rankings, but those 3 stood out the most

Are we really giving Whaley credit for signing Enemkpali and T.J. Barnes? That's pretty pathetic if we care considering both guys are fringe roster players in the NFL and have yet to do anything productive.
