Helpmenow Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Stalin > Lennon. Willie > Merle > God Shake my head
dpberr Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) Out of all his music, Cream was the song I liked the most. As a casual fan of Prince, two things that stands out about him IMO is that he was always likable and he was an exceptionally talented songwriter - not only for his own songs but he wrote hits for other bands. IDBillzFan Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Forgive me for not reading through this entire thread, but I'm curious: am I the only one who doesn't get why pretty much everyone is making a big deal out of Prince's death?

The Poojer Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 yeah, you are, he was an incredible musician, he transcended so many styles, genres, media etc. He wrote great songs, he had a very good singing voice and he is one of the best guitarists to play(I'll take Eric Clapton's words to that effect over anyone here). He was innovative. People are making a big deal over it because he was a VERY big deal. Nope. I just assume the new normal in the social media age is to act like everyone was Elvis or John Lennon. And quite frankly, after watching that 'chemtrails' video above, the guy sounded ready for the rubber room.

I just don't remember people get this spun up when Slim Whitman died, and he killed Martians.

It's apocryphal, so it's silly to lord it over other people. A great musician, exceptional guitarist, incredible songwriter. A visionary. Possibly the greatest live performer of his era. He did put out a lot of crappy tunes, though.

That's probably what makes them such great artists.

Yeah, that's true and you see it in extremely high achievers in a lot of professions . Edison, Steve Jobs, Tiger Woods.....we could probably make a list all day. Edited April 22, 2016 by KD in CT

Other than Bowie, name another performer who died this year who generated this kind of memorial response? The reason for the attention is that it was earned & deserved.

John from Riverside Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Im driving into work today listening to a country and western station of all things and they are talking about Prince's death. The popular hard core country and western singers commenting on it.....says Prince crosses genres with his brilliiance
