BuffaloHokie13 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 On one side I see a 22 year old having fun and sharing it on social media, on the other I see a wide receiver who complained about a lack of targets while injured and I get frustrated.
3rdand12 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I agree with that too... It's not even close to a big deal. As a few others pointed out- 'Disappointing' summarizes it well. You want to see your franchise superstars leading the team. Sammys not... It's Unfortunate they'll have to look elsewhere for that characteristic... End of story. Like when you're at the beer store hoping for Molson Golden, but all they have is Molson Canadian. no it is more like you are looking for Molson Brador and all they have is Molson Stock Ale. The rest of your comments are true though : )

CommonCents Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 He certainly can. 1. We have yet to see how he will lead once camp actually starts. You don't know what he has said to his teammates to excuse his absence. 2. Same as above. Ignoring the hate mail is easier said than done, but yes he should ignore it. The point was that it isn't crazy for a 21-22 year old kid to lash out at people questioning every aspect of his character. 3. This is assuming he doesn't work out on his own, and do his own conditioning. Of course the time he missed a workout was certainly the cause. If your paying a guy millions do you want him working out with your well paid training staff in your high priced facility or do you want him doing leg lifts at his local planet fitness? Everyone here knows Sammy is a talent but some choose to ignore the obvious that a good teammate shows up with the rest of the team. Football is a team game I don't think I need to hold your hand through this... It's bad optics to the fans and more importantly to the players. You have a guy like TT who has been in the news all offseason and is going to be one of the lowest paid starting QB's...he bitching? He show up on time? He make little job comments last season? He posting casino pics while the rest of his team is in Buffalo? Sure he did a camp for kids on Sunday...no available flights Sunday night? Monday? Tuesday? Yeah ok it's not a huge deal right now but it's just being ignorant to ignore the optics and potential backlash he is opening self up too. Everyone likes Sammy the player, as stuff like this goes on people lose faith in Sammy the man and when we drafted him he was "mature beyond his years" so it's not surprising when people take notice.
3rdand12 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 BOOM. Classic movie. Well extrapolated and applied If your paying a guy millions do you want him working out with your well paid training staff in your high priced facility or do you want him doing leg lifts at his local planet fitness? Its really just symbolism. Because he is the lone player to not show, he gets some spotlight. But then he is stupid or arrogant enough to advertise where he was and what he was doing just is a poor look. Maybe he was going to give the winnings to charity..
QuoteTheRaven83 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I don't have a problem with this. These are voluntary WORKOUTS. The things we would've been criticizing the Bills in the early 90's for if social media was around back then. They probably did WAY more crap and got away with way more sht than this. Not news to me.
Fadingpain Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I recall Bruce Smith missing as much time as possible prior to the real season starting pretty much every year. He was good enough to get away with it, and Sammy probably is too.

I'm not paying Sammy anything. I am also fairly certain he isn't doing his conditioning at planet fitness all offseason, but who knows, maybe he is. The fans don't matter in that regard. They have already been proven to be unreliable, fickle, and quick to turn on anyone. As for the players, no one knows what Watkins said to his teammates, or whether or not he has been working out with them in the offseason at all. Curious if Watkins would be getting the same love as Taylor if his agent was talking up new contracts. Pretty sure the fans would say "it's his agent, he must be involved with it". But I guess we will find that out next year. You say its not a huge deal now, but it is opening himself to potential backlash. We can agree on that. The disagreement is on whether or not it is warranted from the fans who have the least amount of insight into the matter.

What has this, to date, average starting NFL WR done to earn the same benefit of doubt/ latitude as the greatest DE to ever play the game?? He hasn't even caught up to the wrs in his draft class. Btw- I've acknowledged other than a mild pity, it's not a deal. But the Bruce justification is bubkis Edited April 19, 2016 by over 20 years of fanhood

I wonder what the excuse will be when he has a monster year and surpasses them at the 2/3 mark of last season there was no better WR on the field for any team Edited April 19, 2016 by John from Hemet

He was good enough to get away with it, and Sammy probably is too. I recall Stevie Johnson not being in optimal shape because he didn't take the off-season seriously. I'd prefer Sammy in Buffalo wearing an ALL IN shirt. I'm hoping he's spending 6 hours/day in the gym where ever he is.
FireChan Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I wonder what the excuse will be when he has a monster year and surpasses them at the 2/3 mark of last season there was no better WR on the field for any team Does 1/3 of the season matter or does the whole season matter? Josh Gordon once had the greatest handful weeks of all time for WR's.
papazoid Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 they are only "voluntary" if you are a superstar and not afraid of losing your job. see how far that gets a bubble guy. and the distractions begin.....look at me, look at me, i'm above this silly workout stuff.

The whole season matters of course however Sammy was injured to start the season right? New system, new QB, they seemed to have it all put together towards the end I am waiting to see if the Tyrod/Sammy connection starts off when it left off

Really, he strung together a few really good weeks. Rest of the season, he was just okay.

Beerball Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Welp, as long as championships are determined at the 2/3 pole then we're in like a sweet roll (possibly).
Saxum Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 i thought Kyle wasn't cleared Vacation is more important than team meetings and activities? He's been off for almost 4 months. I just will never get it. Shouldn't he *want* to be there? Maybe he will be there full time when referees are? The whole voluntary part of a job is a joke in my opinion; the NFL on next contract should allocate more money to be paid in offseason workouts, training camp, etc for players and less for during season. Yes that means more scrubs will be getting money but they spend sometimes months with very little compensation. And if a quarter of the superstars money came from that period players would schedule camps, vacations and other offseason activities when they were off like regular working people.
