I'm going to Las Vegas next month for the first time. Any veterans here who can give this low budget guy some big budget tips on where to go eat, drink and things to do that won't cost me an arm and a leg? I plan to do a little gambling, a little drinking and take in the strip. Much appreciated!!!!

Low budget and Vegas are generally not two things that work well together, but assuming you don't get out much, I would recommend the Bellagio fountain show at night. Lists of times are here.

Walking through the Forum Shops at Caesers is kinda fun if you like to people watch.

And if you find yourself in the mood to drop a bunch of dough on an amazing meal, avoid the Vegas standard fare and go old school to Piero's. Eat like it matters to you.

If you end up in strip clubs, remember this important rule: the difference between when one EDM song starts and the next one finishes can be the difference between $20 and $120.

Grand Lux Cafe at The Venetian, is my favorite place to eat in Las Vegas. Good food and not expensive.

Check out a Cirque du Soleil show if you can, they never disappoint.

I forgot to inform my bank about the vacation and they put a hold on my account after a few unusual transactions. Luckily, I lost only a few hundred instead of the few thousand I rationalized I could deal with...

Rent a car and drive out to Valley of Fire. I loved my first trip to Vegas last Summer and this was one of my favorite things that I did on the trip. Also, Pinball Museum was very fun.

I can also recommend hiking Valley of Fire state park. Make sure to drive the road that leads up into a canyon behind the visitor's center - - there are a number of scenic trails that start near that road. The area is scenic even from the road.

Second choice (although it's a little closer) is the Red Rock Canyon area. Not as striking as Valley of Fire, but still pretty nice. It also has a visitor's center with info about many trails in the area.

Third option - - the Hoover Dam tour:

I've also been told by hiking friends that there is a trailhead near the dam - - the trail follows an old abandoned railroad right of way that was used to bring supplies into the canyon when the dam was being built. I haven't hiked it myself.

Also, probably farther away than most would want for a day trip, but if you really like to hike, Zion National Park is about 3 hours away, and it is SPECTACULAR. Most consider Angel's Landing and The Narrows the two most iconic trails in the park.

Snow Canyon state park near Saint George, UT is about 2 hours away from Las Vegas, much less publicized than Zion, but also very striking. Easier to do as a day trip out of Las Vegas because it's closer, but still a longer drive for a day trip than many would prefer - - depends on how much you like to hike vs. spending time in the casinos.

Lots of options, so whatever you decide, enjoy!

With respect to the good Mr. Vader, let me suggest you only do this if it's the kind of thing you really enjoy.

Everyone told me when I was in Vegas that I should go see Cirque's show called "O!"

After 20 minutes, I realized where they got the title of the show.

It was short for "O, for phucks' sake, why did I blow $100 a ticket on this crap!?"

That's funny. I'll admit I like Cirque shows, but the last show of theirs I saw was "O" and it was, by far, the worst.

we went last month, and it had been a while since I had been...was shocked at how expensive everything is!

Make sure you have Lyft on your phone..i can send you an invite code for free rides...cabbies getting rocked out there and are not exactly taking nicely to it. I took two cab rides, argument both times as they were trying to go long routes. Lyft way cheaper!

Get a twelve pack of decent cans to keep in your rooom..drink them at the pool and walking around beers.

Stay away from the big name restaurants..way overpriced for the quality. Everything is prices

Find a good happy hour for food.

you know the place is expensive when $5 drafts of Corona and Heineken are cited as bargains!

I suggest you spend way more than you ever imagined. Really over extend yourself night one and ball just as hard tomorrow as the day before.

And use a fake name, I've had good luck using "Beerball from Ohio", though "he" is now overextended his credit at every casino on the strip.

Great news!

Make sure you go downtown and see The Freemont Experience Show at night. It's amazing!

Also go eat at Naked City Pizza. It was featured on "Diners Dives and Drive Inns" on the Food Channel. The owner has Buffalo ties. The menu features wings and beef on weck. Fair warning the place looked like a hole in a wall on the TV.
