Deranged Rhino
Timed to come out just as the election will be headed for the home stretch, though that has more to do with award season than politics. I'm willing to bet this will become a talking point on the trail. It's (in my mind) a MUCH better film than 12 Years a Slave and expect it to have more of a lasting impact as well. Nat Turner's rebellion come to life... the parallels that will be drawn by bloggers, and political reporters should be entertaining.

Tiberius
Here is a little side note to the rebellion http://www.encyclopediavirginia.org/Virginia_Slavery_Debate_of_1831-1832_The Virginia seriously debated freeing the slaves. Probably most of the support for that came from western Virginia but still interesting. Also since the tariff revolt in South Carolina followed so closely, hard not to think there was a connection

CommonCents
Um... Jamie Foxx isn't in Birth of a Nation... Ufgh I am a fool, I googled the movie and saw his named mentioned as (exclusive) on the Hollywood reporter. Not sure what that means ... Sounds like Nate Parker directed it and stars in it, nice chunk of change from Fox for the film though.

Not sure what that means ... Sounds like Nate Parker directed it and stars in it, nice chunk of change from Fox for the film though. It's all good. I had to go back and double check and I've seen the film. It's the biggest sale in Sundance history ($17.5 million) and worth every penny in my eyes. Parker crushes this movie in every way. I'm a nerd about this area of history and usually find more flaws in the films that try to tackle it than merit, but this flick nails it. He'll be a huge name after this coming award season, and he'll have earned it. It does? Based on a 2 minute trailer? Boy they have your number. In this case it's deserved though... but yes, this will be honey for a lot of opinion pieces and blogs in the coming months, especially if (somehow) it's Sanders on the D ticket. I'll be the first to admit movies are not my strong suit but I couldn't tell, based on that 2 minute trailer, if that movie was Oscar worthy or sucks balls. Chef Jim
Topic of movie interesting? Check Seems to be a serious attempt to portray the historical event? Check Scenes that I saw look interesting? Check Looks like a good flick. Will let you know if it was or wasn't after I see the whole thing. Are you trying to derail a thread? Check You a butthole? Check! Topic of the movie? Lots of movies with fantastic themes that suck balls big time Serious attempt to portray a historical event? Yeah Hollywood is notorious for nailing history. Scenes look interesting? Yup, those were some damn fine trees and grass. Oh and that tall white mansion and little shacks? Southern man (aka white man) when will you pay them back? Looks like a good flick? Yup 2 minutes of a 2 hour movie is plenty enough for you to decide that Me derailing a thread? I don't know you tell me. You're the expert. Me a butthole? I know son. It's not good when Lisa Sue rejects you for the spring fling but no need to take it out on others. I know junior high sucks but you'll be out of that awkward stage soon. No shame in that. Trailers can be misleading. Nooooooooooooooooooo??? BTW I was waiting for the scene where the car flips over and bursts into flames. Isn't that required in every Hollywood movie these days?
