I feel sorry for whichever QB the Rams select #1. No QB in this draft is NFL ready and won't be for a few seasons at best. Yes, the Rams need a QB, but this trade was made for the glamour value of the Rams' return to LA more than anything; a real glitz pick. This QB has never played a down in the league and will already be the brand of the LA franchise. It's enough pressure just trying to figure out and survive the defenses this kid is gonna see, let alone be the face of a storied franchise's return to the showbiz capitol of the world.

My sympathies, Carson Goff.

GO BILLS!!!

Similar to RG3 trade - lots of pressure very soon. Jameis and Mariota were in markets with relatively low exposure.

It's funny that you say this because it was exactly what I was thinking. I admittedly think that Luck is overrated but he was still incredibly safe coming out. There was virtually no chance that he wasn't going to be a Pro Bowl QB. The Rams are not getting that with this deal.

But they are getting loads of press. Really helps Kronke market the team in LA. And I know people say this will "set the Rams back for years" but really it won't. At most, I think it "sets them back" 2 years. They have 2 years to figure out if whoever they pick for QB is the guy, if they don't think he is and he is really bad, they'll have a 1st round pick in 2018 and could be selecting near the top of the draft.

Or maybe they also select a developmental QB in back end of the draft?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is the draft to move up for a QB but I don't think it's as damaging for them as some believe.

Rams received a lot for RG3 now they return the favor . Titans made out great this time around.

The Titans just fleeced the Rams. What a horrible trade for the Rams!!! You would think they would know better after they had done the same thing to Washington a few years ago.

You don't trade away a large chunk of your future on a BIG question mark! Idiots!

And RG3 was infinitely more ready for the league coming out; at least according to the subjective ratings of the scouting community (not the talking heads), that make a living evaluating talent. It's 50/50 proposition at best, even for the highest rated prospects. QB is just a doubly damned hard position to predict, especially with the cookie-cutter defenses these guys see nowadays.

Did they give up two firsts to get him, or swap firsts and give one?

The debate never dies.

Cmon man, it's totally 3 picks. Gave up the 15th pick and their pick next year PLUS the pick to select the player.

Maybe this is more the point that I was trying to make. I don't think that this crushes them (today) but this wouldn't have been the draft to push your chips in on a QB IMO. I liked the 2 guys last year better and definitely (at this point) like Watson better next year. It just doesn't feel like good value to me. The Rams could have sat at 15 and taken Lynch. I like him less than Goff or Wentz but I like Lynch + all of those picks more. They could have taken Cook (for example) and plugged him in. There just felt like better options.

It just felt like an odd place to go "all in." If they were back in St. Louis this year I can almost guarantee they wouldn't have made this move. The motivation doesn't feel right.

That wasn't an option. The evidence is inconclusive.

A sensible trade for both parties. The Rams have a solid team with no QB. They needed to take a chance on finding a great QB and what they gave up was a pretty big haul but it wasn't a tragic haul like the RGIII trade where the Skins !@#$ed themselves over for 3 drafts. The Rams had extra picks from the Bradford trade and then sold out their next draft. Not exactly !@#$ing themselves over completely.

Pick 15

2 mid 2nd rounder

A swap of a 4th rounder to 3rd round

1st and 3rd next year

The Titans threw in a 6th rounder this year but that haul was pretty good for a team looking to rebuild. They set themselves up pretty solid for the next two drafts. They have 3 2nd round picks plus pick 15 and a couple of 3rd rounders. Throw in 2 1st and 3rds next year and it seems like a good deal for a team set with a QB.

Has to be the California boy with them moving back to California.

No way I'd make the decision between the two on that basis. It would be asking for trouble with the potential of drafting the lesser player and would be potential suicide IMO. They cannot afford to screw this up.

Maybe they happen to think that the kid from California is the better player? Either way for them to unload most of their best picks in 2 drafts for a player they must really believe in him. I agree that you can't make it a factor in who you pick but maybe it just lined up that way for them.
