Thor's kicked the Blonde habit; brunettes now for Ragnarok

Looks like Thor II was last appearance for Jane Foster in movie universe.

Dr. Jane Foster is the latest casualty of the casting cull for Marvel's upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. It has been confirmed that Natalie Portman will not be reprising her role for the third Thor film, while Creed and Westworld actress Tessa Thompson is tipped to play Thor's latest squeeze in an (as yet) undefined role.

Few details have been released yet about Thompson’s character, but Deadline sources say she’ll be something of a superhero herself, and that this won’t be her only appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

 

My guess is Tessa Thompson will play Monica Rambeau who used various aliases such as Captain Marvel, Photon, Pulsar, .. and Spectrum. The character has powers which work on the scale of battles Thor is usually in. She could play the Asgardian Valkyrie even though she is not the physical type but that never stopped Marvel Films before.

 

I am guessing Cate Blanchett will play the Enchantress since I do not see her having the physical assets to play the Valkyrie.

 

I guess Jane Foster will need to put down the hammer (she is currently Thor in comics) before the movie is released.

I recall reading that Portman was pissed at the producer or director after the first Thor movie, for some reason (something indirectly personal, I think. Someone treated someone badly, in a way she really didn't agree with. Don't recall the whole story, because frankly I didn't care all that much) and she only did the second Thor movie because she couldn't get out of the contract.

 

So I'm not terribly surprised.
