The Wiz Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 I'm going to Vegas tomorrow. It really has little to do with the Raiders but I'm just throwing it out there. Just out of curiosity, how long are you staying until?

The Wiz Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Just until Friday, I'm there for work mostly. Not trying to use you as an example but that's kind of my point. I feel like a lot of people go to vegas for work and it normally comes to a close thursday for conventions and such. People that have the time and money and vacation time to stay there on the weekend and monday just to go to a game seems like a lower percentage. I'm sure you could catch an NHL game the following night (assuming they had a team right now) but it would likely be on your own dime (hotel at least), right?

My wife travels almost weekly, and I cherry pick the weeks to tag along depending upon location, duration, other plans, etc. We will pick the trips where we want to extend the hotel a few days at our expense and do some extra stuff. It's actually awesome! Her airfare, most of the hotels, airport parking transportation, a lot of meals, etc. are all covered. I thought Vegas was silly earlier, but I'm kind of coming around on this one.

I'd probably expense it but we are pretty loose on that stuff. That's what I did last trip. Sometimes when I travel at the end of the week my fiancé will come in and we stay the weekend. We can usually get the hotel rates extended beyond the convention so it's a good way to vacation on someone else's dime. Vegas is one of those places that you don't want to be at for more than like 3 days. I've done it before and it was miserable. It just moves to fast for that. With that being said I think that it will be THE destination for road teams. Everyone that plans the trip with their buddies before the season starts. It sounds like LA was like that for Bills fans and London last year. The Saints were in San Diego this year and it was the same thing. Every guy that I know was out there with a group. You are kind of like Peter Griffin when Lois becomes a flight attendant!! You've got it figured it out Aug!!! There really isn't another city in the country that is as much of a destination for something like an NFL away game. If the Bills play the Cardinals, would I go to Phoenix? I was there for a week, once. Jeezus, what a sweltering shiat-hole! Oakland? SF? Nice enough towns. Plenty to do, if you go looking, just like every other city. But, Vegas? C'mon! An afternoon game, and a show in the evening, followed by partying until about 9:00am the next morning, and then doing the OJ through the airport to catch your plane? (I just dated myself. Remember that commercial from the '70s? "Go OJ!") Kirby's right about the length of stay, though. I worked on a movie there for five weeks, once, and it nearly ended my life. But, if the crowd that showed up to the LA Memorial Coliseum last Sunday showed up in Vegas... I can't even imagine. That would be a fun party. Edited October 12, 2016 by Rocky Landing

The only exception was when we spent a few days with friends who live there far away from, but with a view of, the Strip before my wife went to work and I began to play on my own. A very, very different perspective with "natives". But I must say, I have nothing figured out, I'm just absolutely stupid lucky! P.S. I had to google Peter Griffin and Lois, but.......yes

Huge travelling team crowds consistently is my guess. P.S. I had to google Peter Griffin and Lois, but.......yes Giggity
mrags Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Anyone that thinks it wouldn't be a huge destination game for anyone and everyone is batchit crazy. Either you've never been to Vegas or you can't afford your own trip there without work picking up some or all of the tab. I lived there for 2 years. The amount of people that come in for absolutely no reason other than to drink and party and gamble their asses off is insane. Why not plan a favorite team away game into the trip while your going. And let's not forget that casinos give away event tickets like mini snickers bars on Halloween. The rooms are comped, the food and drinks are comped, the shows and events are comped, why not have a LV Raiders game comped too. Even if you aren't a fan of the team, you don't think, out of the 40+ million tourists each year you couldn't find 100k each Sunday during football season to take free tickets? It doesn't matter if the stadium would hold over 100,000 people. It will be a sell out each and every game. I'd bet the house on it.

Hotel, meals/drinks/shows all were free for me. It would aggravate me though he would always like to go tuesday thru monday. After a few of those it was just too much. I couldnt handle it. When I go with my friends for the super bowl we get there Friday night & I usually high tale it out of there and catch the 6 am flight Monday morning. I am usually in a drunken stuper for 50 straight hours or so with very minimal sleep & just pass out on the plane ride home. Good times!
long suffering bills fan Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 This is my first post. I was born and raised in Western New York and I am a life long bills fan. Since 2001 I have resided in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is a wonderful community that has so much more to offer than what tourists typically see. Based upon the comments from the Nevada State Speaker of the House, it looks like there will be enough "yes" votes in the assembly for this proposal to pass. The link below is a great article from the Las Vegas Review Journal that outlines the entire stadium proposal. My only concern is that with the public contributing $750 million through room tax (thank you tourists), UNLV will still be required to pay rent to play home games in the proposed stadium. With the clout that the Raiders have, we have no choice but to accept their terms. http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/stadium/raiders-stadium-project-las-vegas-clears-nevada-senate-16-5-vote I have enjoyed the insightful postings on Two bills Drive for years. I love the passion that Bills fans bring to their postings. Let's get for 4 in a row. GO BILLS!!!!

As for the early morning flight, the trick is getting on it. I was in New Orleans a couple years ago and met up with Kirby for a miserable loss to Miami on a Thursday night (22-9?). Ugly. Great venue to see a game, but the 8 hours of pre-game for me made things sketchy. If you're familiar with the 100 year flood plain, you may know about the 10 year drunk plain. I was lucky the wife was uncharacteristically overserved while out with co-workers in the French Quarter, so we're still married. But New Orleans has signs in the taxis that say there's a $100 fine for "puking, peeing or pooping" in the cab. I avoided the fine, and considered it a victory.
jr1 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I'm probably the only one that hopes they can stay in Nor Cal. I couldn't imagine the heartbreak if the Bills left here

I couldn't imagine the heartbreak if the Bills left here I think there are quite a few Raiders fans in Southern California (I know several of them) who would disagree with you!

long suffering bills fan Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 The Nevada legislature just passed the stadium referendum. Now it is in the hands of the NFL owners in January
