26CornerBlitz Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 @SalSports Bills contract focus now turns to Taylor/Gilmore. Whaley said on @WGR550 he's "supremely confident there's a chance" they can get all 3 done
Wilton Bills Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Not a big Gilmore fan. Has not been consistent and gets hurt. Not worth the big $$$$ he thinks he is worth. How often have we had a good defensive secondary player who has left for greener pastures and been average for the rest of his career. Waste of money to re-sign Gilmore on a big cap strapping contract.

White Linen Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Do NOT do anything with Taylor's contract. They won't and they literally can't.
3rdand12 Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 @SalSports Bills contract focus now turns to Taylor/Gilmore. Whaley said on @WGR550 he's "supremely confident there's a chance" they can get all 3 done wtf does that mean? is it a direct quote or Sal's special interpretaton You mean like Winfield? Letting Gilmore get away would be a mistake IMO. Tough call. I would let him play out the season honestly. Hope Norman crashes. I really like Gilmore on every level. but..
Doc Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 They won't and they literally can't. As per 26's post a couple posts above, Whaley thinks they can get Gilmore and Taylor new deals.
Rubes Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 You mean like Winfield? Letting Gilmore get away would be a mistake IMO. Agreed.
Estro Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I think the Bills value Gilmore a lot. I personally like Gilmore, I think he's a nice player.......that said, I don't think he's a stud. If we were able to get him for $11-$12M per I'd be happy to retain his services. The problem is I think he and his agent know they can command a lot more than that on the open market and they are probably right. Josh Norman just signed a 5 year - $75M deal ($15M per). What's even scarier is he gets $20M in year 1, & $17M in Year 2 of that deal. $37M in the first 2 years is obscene. I think that deal is going to create quite a divide between the Bills and Gilmore because Gilmore probably views himself as better than Norman and the Bills probably have no intentions of spending that type of loot on Gilmore. In the end the Bills will want to keep Gilmore's contract as close to Janoris Jenkins contract, which was just signed with the Giants for 5 years - $62.5M ($12.5M/per). Gilmore's camp will anchor in at Revis/Patrick Peterson money which is roughly $14M per year. The compromise will probably be in the $13M per year neighborhood, perhaps with some incentives that can push it to $14M per, so the agent can publicize an inflated deal to the press. It's a lot of money, but in year or 2 it'll probably look a lot better as the cap continues to rise.
White Linen Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 As per 26's post a couple posts above, Whaley thinks they can get Gilmore and Taylor new deals. I don't see how. Yes you can get Gilmore done because his 5th year option and long term contract aren't far away in terms of money this year. How in the world would they find an extra 15-20 million this year for Tyrod?

How in the world would they find an extra 15-20 million this year for Tyrod? I dont think they'll commit to $15M for Taylor right now. But if they could find room to bump him up this year and throw a couple extra million his way, I bet that would be appreciated across the entire locker room, and hopefully if/when it comes time to work out the expensive long term deal. Right now, everything needs to be focused on getting Gilmore done. If they could do that before camp... holy cow, what an offseason that would be.

So, they have an option of paying him 2 million less than $15. I think the Bills have some room to negotiate.

How in the world would they find an extra 15-20 million this year for Tyrod? I'd have to see how much, if anything, they saved on the cap by signing Cordy. Then the same if Gilmore accepts an extension. And I'd also need to know what they're planning on offering TT/what he'd be willing to accept.
Steve Billieve Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I think Gilmore wants to be seen as elite more than he actually wants the money. I think he feels overlooked by the national media. Maybe he would love a flashy deal that never has the chance of getting paid in full To be confident that there's a chance doesn't take much. I'm supremely confident that the bills have a chance to go undefeated this year.

He wants to be paid what he's worth, and then he wants to go out on Sundays and play his game. I know that he's received at least one contract offer, and that it was slightly below the range he wanted. I have no doubt he'll be signed before training camp.

Deranged Rhino Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 The Bills can, and I expect they will, structure Gilmore's deal so the bulk of the cap hit will take place while Darby is still on his rookie deal. That way, for the next three seasons they can have two elite CBs for the price of one and give themselves the flexibility to walk away from Gilmore just as Darby's second contract is coming due. That would be the way I'd approach it as a GM at least and I expect it to get done well before camp starts. It's a good time to be a Bills fan.
