Signing a starting QB (should Tyrod earn it), starting and proven LT, and starting and proven corner - even if they are our own guys - is a HUGE deal. I'm glad we have the space in 2017 to accomplish it if we are fortunate enough to have cause to do so.

Brandon Marshall (LB for the Broncos, not the WR) potentially, Muhammad Wilkerson, Calais Campbell, Trumaine Johnson, David DeCastro, Riley Reiff, Dont'a Hightower, Melvin Ingram, Michael Floyd, Dontari Poe, Fletcher Cox, and a list of others. Of course we have no idea who will be tagged or signed before then, but we are in good shape for the 2017 offseason.

Exactly JM. There are a lot of ways to move money around to make it work. Now, if these guys do their jobs well, and god forbid we actually make the playoffs, don't expect a big splash next year in free agency. Sign these guys and hopefully this year and next year's drafts gets us three starters. I believe Whaley's nature is to emulate the Steelers, and Packers MO of resigning guys for the second contract, and cheap labor in the draft. Third contract is where you squeeze them and they take less for security. That's the NFL now with the CBA.

That is why I understand these guys wanting a great 2nd contract because for most players it's their only real payday when they are at their peak. Just look at Ferguson. 10 years, never missed a snap, and the jets want him to take a 50% paycut. Makes sense to retire. If I were him, I'd sit out this year, and shop his services to a deep playoff team next year for 10+ mil per year and get 1-2 more years of income. Same with Calvin Johnson. Sit out, and go to a Packers, Pats, Steelers, or whatever team he thinks has the best shot for a SB ring.

Yep

What I find kind of interesting is we have a lot of people bitching about cap management and how we couldnt sign anybody

- Well.....we did....and franky players that have had success with other teams.....

- If these guys do in fact provide depth to this team and if we draft well this next year....we are looking VERY nice going into next season

I wouldn't read too much into Whaley's restraint and Steelers/Packers-like approach this offseason. He had no choice but to operate that way. Also, last season he went on a bit of a spending spree and overpaid/paid top dollar to acquire some players. Teams like the Steelers and Packers don't fluctuate how they operate like that. Maybe last year was an aberration, but I'll wait and see how he operates over the long term before making a determination about his nature. I find it funny how so many of the same people who praised him for being aggressive in acquiring and paying new acquisitions last season are also praising him for his frugality and restraint this offseason.

BUT

If it works out? He might just stick with it

Do we have a list of players Bills might and possibly should let go next year. There is money to be found there.

Get a decent draft in and it might be time for players like Lawson and Graham might be due.
Fa will not be as exciting as it once was. Spending to the cap in one year was fun but now it is about sound financial management and looking longer term via the draft.

Might get kinda boring folks

Graham is definitely high on that list if he is as average in 2016 as 2015 and Aaron Williams can bounce back from that nasty neck injury. Spotrac has Graham at $5.375 million on 2017 or $1.6 million dead money if he's cut.

Dan Carpenter - $2.9375 million or 537.5k dead money.

Kyle Williams - unpopular as it may be, $8.3 million or $1.5 million dead.

Jerome Felton - $2.5 million or $1.3 dead (worth noting this goes down to 650k if it were a post June 1 cut)

Eric Wood - $6.325 million or $1.8 million dead.

You mentioned Lawson, he's a UFA after this season, but maybe they can get him on a one or two year deal with a lower cap number to play out the string.

Are those #s correct? After Kyles contract redo? I am one of the Kyle homers : )

Bills really need to solve that ridiculous Kicker issue.

Felton did not thrill me last year, not sure what is up with that.

Not sure how feel about Manny after mentoring some one this year.

I love the guy , smart player. But time is catching up to him. Hence my two LBs theory this draft

Spotrac is usually up to date, it had notes about the recent rework on there, doesn't mean its absolutely 100% right. I love Kyle Williams too but that's a lot of potential savings on a player who will be 34 for the 2017 season. Football is a tough business.

no argument there. but let his play speak for itself this year.
