I did a search and didn't see this posted so I apologize if it was, since it was back in early January. It was tweeted out again today since TT was in the news (thanks to his yappy agent). It's good stuff.

Tyrod Taylor may be the blueprint for developing young quarterbacks from the bench. Throughout his pre-draft process in 2011, Taylor was barely considered a quarterback, as many felt he was better suited moving to wide receiver. The Baltimore Ravens took their chances on Taylor as an athletic backup behind Joe Flacco. Taylor got limited snaps here and there in Baltimore, but never quite enough to get a comfortable feel for his game. Upon his contract ending, Baltimore opted to let him go and sign with the Buffalo Bills, who were having a bit of a quarterback battle between Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel. The Bills signing of Taylor seemed to be little more than a third guy to push the other two into more heated competition. Little did they know, the Bills had signed their starting quarterback for the year.

Baltimore didn't "opt to let him go." He wasn't going to re-sign for small money to be Joe Flacco's back up for another 5+ years. And while he might be kicking himself for not taking the Broncos' deal last year, he'd be in a worse position since I doubt he'd see the field last year as the third stringer and they'd still be looking for a new quarterback this year, not knowing what they had in him.

Plus he wouldn't have hit his contract escalators that got him out of his 3rd year - that's even if the Broncos would have agreed to be as gracious as we were.

In the end, if TT plays well and hits his acclerators, he'll make $3 mil this year (reference is Vic Carruci this morning on the morning drive interviewed by Ross Tucker and Booger), and then get his big contract next year.

That second contract could be worth $30 mil guaranteed and $18 mil a year. He will be rich beyond 99.9% of the population, and if he gets even smarter as many great QB's do in the third contract, repeat and do even better. It's up to him.
