I am taking my family to Ecuador for a couple of weeks at the end of this year. I am considering a visit to the Galapagos islands during this time. Can anyone recommend a tour company they have used? I am considering Stanford Travel http://www.stanfordtravel.com/ but interested if anyone has any experience with a tour company that works there. We are all healthy and active so not interested in a passive tour geared to seniors.

The first week we are going to spend with the Cofán indigenous people in the rain forest, http://www.cofan.org/ (see Ecotours link). I saw Randy Borman (interesting guy) speak about the Cofán at a TEDx show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4yCdGB2NG4 and have made reservations with him to stay there. I can report back if anyone is interested in doing this type of activity.

Post here or message me about Galapagos tour operators.

Thanks

I booked the standard tour while in Guayaquil in 2009 (150th anniversary of Origins). Stayed on the main island, then Took various tours as part of the package. If I did it again, I'd book a boat tour that allows you to see and experience much more, But much more $.

Amazing either way, especially if you're good at snorkeling. I had a ball swimming with sea lions and following a marine iguana.

It should be left alone and pristine and not turned into a garbage dump like Everest, et. al.

Used GAP Great adventure people. That particular trip we ended up in SA for 37 days. We added it on. it was 06. Since then I had issues mainly treck cancellations to remore paets of Peru. But there site can give you an idea. If you want to gamble in the past their rates nosedive if not sold out near a departure date. Galapagos is a popular destination though.

The only thing I know about South America is that you don't drink the water.

...and that things crawl up stuff when you're swimming.

Also, when you flush the toilet, the water goes in the opposite direction compared to here.

Actually, no. The volume of water is too small to be deflected by the coriolis force.
