It's a good piece, but I think it misses an important point: defending a route is different than running a route. Because they don't know a receiver's route, they are always required to possess the ability to shift direction and rapidly recover. That's why you don't see 6'5" safeties -- guys that size are largely incapable of doing this. They simply play too stiff when they're that tall, and as a consequence they'll be easily beaten on a regular basis. They won't even have a chance to contest throws because the receiver will be past them. Gronk would be horrible in coverage, for instance.

Watch the market for Darron Lee, Su'a Cravens, Miles Killebrew in the draft...all 6'+ -- all can run-- all 220-235...I would love for the Bills to get one or even two of these hybrid strong safety/cover linebackers...

a sleeper who may go sooner than expected is Tyvis Powell due to his size and speed a la Kam Chancellor. I think Powell is a 4th-5th rd talent but he's going sooner in the mocks. He ran faster than expected at the combine and I don't like the angles he takes sometimes but he's a big play guy at times and very coachable. I would take him in a second over our 5th round safety, Duke Williams, for example. Edited by YoloinOhio

Yolo, thanks for sharing. A decade ago, taking a safety high was a reach, but in the last few years it has become even more important. Let's hope Aaron Williams is healthy as he was excellent before his injury. I still wonder if Corey Graham is big enough to do the job, as he was very effective at CB the previous year. Let's hope he ate his wheaties this off season and gained 15 lbs. of muscle.

TJ Green is going to be a great pick-up for some team in this regard. I'm hoping it's the Bills.

Lanky, super fast safety. He might be able to put on a little more muscle, too.

Graham has already slowed. he is back there for his smarts.

Good guy all around but maybe his last season with Bills as is Lawson.

look for these two to be replaced in the draft this year or next. maybe some late round developmentals this year.

But i would not be surprised to see one of these guys like Cravens drafted to start

A Williams is a wild card and it worries me something awful

He's a raw prospect, so I've generally seen him projected in rounds 3 or 4. He'd be a good fit for the Bills and we have Reed on staff to coach him up.

Thanks. If he is in the 4th when we have two picks , i am fine with taking a coachable player or two. That were the fun is I think. Cooching up players with higher potential who need good guys at the NFL level to bring the best out of them

I feel they had best hit on the 3rd pick though
