funny they use faith, which is hardly a blip on the map. odd choice - particularly because it is of no actual distinction and literally a 2 light town with about 1/2 mile main strip. no walmart, no substantiate actual town really. there may be a walmart, i forgot. it's roughly 20-25 minutes from me. it is just outside of rockwell, a slightly larger town and outside of salisbury by 10 minutes. salisbury is the county seat of rowan county - a very much growing community 30 minutes north of charlotte along the i85 corridor.

The transgender edict is a perfect distillation of the Obama administration’s centralizing reflex, high-handed unilateral rule, and burning desire to push the boundaries of cultural change as far as practical in its remaining time in office.

There is no obvious need for a continental nation of more than 300 million people, with more than 14,000 school districts, to have one rule imposed from above on how to handle the sensitive (and suddenly all-consuming) question of which bathrooms transgender students have access to.

Communities should be free to formulate their own policies, in accord with their own mores and particular view of what makes sense.

The Obama administration has decided that such localism, allowing for experiment and flexibility, is impermissible under federal law. Its letter is backed by the implicit threat of withdrawal of federal funds (a more appropriate salutation might have been “To Whom It Concerns — Or Else”). The letter contends that Title IX, the federal statute banning sex discrimination in education, mandates its preferred transgender policy.

Yet sex is different than gender identity (as all viewers of I Am Cait are supposed to know). If Congress had meant in 1972 — when the current debate was unimaginable — to cover discrimination against the transgendered in the statute, it would have included language to that effect. Or it could have amended the statute at any time. It didn’t. But no matter. Now a letter from a couple of federal mandarins carries as much practical power as a law duly passed by Congress and signed by the president. It is government by epistle.

Whatever one makes of the biology or psychology involved, transgender students deserve to be treated with respect. But it’s not unreasonable to worry about having biologically male students in the same restroom as girls, and vice versa. Somehow, we can assume, schools will figure this out. An obvious compromise is the single-occupancy bathroom, which protects transgender students from harassment and addresses privacy concerns for other students.

This isn’t good enough for the Obama administration. Its diktat effectively requires schools to allow boys identifying as girls into girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms, as well as girls’ dorm rooms and sports teams. (Even though many posters here keep denying it)

It is infused with a radical spirit. Gender identity is fluid and entirely subjective, the letter makes clear, referring “to an individual’s internal sense of gender.” As soon as a student notifies a school of his or her changing status, it “will begin treating the student consistent with the student’s gender identity.”

I have heard this sentiment from the article many times:

"You don't want to come to North Carolina, don't come. Go someplace else," she says, laughing. "Happy the way it is. Leave North Carolina alone."

except don't leave it alone with handouts. don't even mention the possibility that you'll cut subsidies from the feds. why should we not get more back from taxes than we pay? but those footing the bill, you stay the hell away if you don't share our cultural values. and while we're at it, obamacare is a disaster but don't touch my Medicaid. except it should be changed to pay for Viagra...and rogaine and... etc.

After the blatant threats to withhold funding, how do you expect Americans to support giving even more of their money to the government to provide "free" healthcare, and college education; Especially when they hear politicians (and you) declare Medicaid/Medicare and Social Security as "gifts" of the benevolent government, that can be taken away, despite forcing citizens to directly pay into them.

You don't think people will notice when schools and businesses get shut down because they disagreed with political correctness (an idea that is rapidly becoming toxic) in favor of protecting families?

Education is a right! ...Unless you don't agree with us, then we'll withhold funds until you capitulate!

What's interesting is that the left seems to believe that the best way to convince people they're wrong is to tell them they're too stupid to understand the issue. Probably not a good idea to insult the vast majority of Americans living outside the liberal bubble.

You're trying to have this discussion with a person who believes that Americans are simply too stupid to do anything by themselves, and that the only way this country should be run is by and through the federal government. He essentially would like the US to be more like North Korea, but maybe with better lighting.

one of your most flagrant strawmen and that's saying a lot.

^ This is a great way to put it.

Step 1: Convince the public they need you

Step 2: Ensure that the public cannot live without your assistance

Step 3: Push an agenda that is not popular "for the good of the people"

Step 4: Threaten withholding promised assistance if you don't accept their agenda

Step 5: Laugh at the public because they are so dependent.

Oh, please. Your answer to every problem in this country is more government involvement, preferably through more government spending. Anyone who disagrees with you is immediately labeled 'anti-intellectual,' which is your pinky-raised snotty way of saying they're too stupid to exist.

Just come out and admit it: More government...less individual accountability...more government control over the economy...less free market at work...that's the way to achieve true American prosperity.

Then, when you openly admit what you really want, you'll feel better and can move on to telling everyone how you shot an 18 at the DPRK Open.

because conservative nc pols play no part in getting pork for their own state... it's all a liberal conspiracy to get conservartive voters hooked on subsidies and for liberal states to pay bills of states that will likely never vote for the same national candidates.

I never said it was solely liberals or conservatives. There are a lot of things the government should be involved in, and there are a lot of things they shouldn't. No matter if you are a D or an R.

I would like to actually hear your opinions. You post articles. You state party #statemenrs. But can you construct a thought of your own to contribute to this and why it is for the better good in your opinion, of course, that NC undo the law? That the elected officials on both sides passed? That Charlotte was in the right to make a law above the state?

Seriously, you're an educated man it seems and I have no problem with anything about you. I'd drink a beer with ya, even. But I also think you're a god damn arrogant retard who thinks too highly of himself and your moral abilities

So please seriously take time to open up your thoughts. I'm sure they'll be empty

hey moron. 237 years this state has been lead by a democratic governor of the last 256. The congress of this state has been democratically led for over 200 of those years.

And now mccrory and his party have done all this in 3 yrs? Guess it shows how weak the democrats are.

Idiot

The parties rather neatly swapped platforms after the Civil Rights Act - Carter had more in common with Eisenhower, and Reagan with Kennedy.

almost all the state? romney won by 2 percent in 2012. mccain lost nc to obama in 2008.

i suspect you are referring to the geographic distribution of dem and repub in the state. no big mystery there. similar reasons for why the dixiecrats refused to be in the party of lincoln.

no. For governorship over the last 4- 5 decades.

Why state level Dems and local repubs?

Why Roy Cooper for 307 yrs?

Why are so many sheriff's out east dem?

Why so many out west republican?

Do you understand NC?

why don't you explain it. i know that local dems in rural va are still very different from national dems. there aren't too many that support gun control, abortion rights or union empowerment, for example. you won't find any that support regulating tobacco as a drug. perhaps that's what you mean

if not, enlighten me on nc political science.
