The RMP was a collosal waste of money to begin with and more is to be spent removing a section of it. The problem is that the bulldozers just need to keep operating by pushing down the rest of downtown NF. It is sad to see its current pathetic state given its proximity to a world wonder.

My Dad grew up in the Falls, and I went to Niagara in the late 70's early 80's. I thought it was bad then, now it looks like a scene out of Mad Max. The downtown area that used to be where my Grandfather had a store is a blighted mess. I remember back in the 80's my Dad would mutter about the corruption and graft that dominated that city. Even something that should be a slam dunk (federal funding for a library) and the money got pissed away on union guys who put up a shoddy building that had terrible leaks within three years. The company who put in the "Best" bid to fix the library? The same one that built it!

I worked in the Wintergarden when it first opened, it was a wonderful structure that within a few years was falling apart from lack of maintenance and neglect. Millions of visitors pass through the town just to see the falls from the Canadian side, and the NY side has yet to figure out a way to get them to stay on this side.

If the Bills ever put a stadium there, I would favor it provided they raze the downtown area and start over.

$42 to dig up the road? I'm sure the state could have that done much cheaper if they didn't insist on MWBE requirements etc etc.

:w00t:

That's a good one!! I needed a laugh today.

Go Purple Eagles! Besides the Falls themselves the NU campus is probably the only other bright spot in the city. No, I have not ignored that ugly casino sitting in the middle of downtown.

Last time I drove through Niagara Falls, I was shocked. Parts of it looked like it was bombed out.

I am a Falls native, Love Canal resident to be exact. Dad was born in 20, never lived anywhere else but the Falls till forced to move to Grand Island in 81 due to Love Canal. Had to move to GI house as house had had FHA assumable mortgage at 7%, mortgage rates were 19% elsewhere...yes kids, mortgage rates at 19%!

Hate to see what has happened to my hometown...mob ruined the town!

Compare the development projects that are being proposed and acted on in Buffalo and Erie County compared to Niagra Falls and Niagra County. The ingrained amount of corruption from the unions and local governments in Niagra County has suffocated the region for generations.

I had a cousin who bought a skating rink in Niagra County and was doing electrical work on his newly bought facility. The inspectors immediately paid him a visit and put a stop to his work claiming that he needed a permit to do that particular job. He got around the hassle by pointing out that he was fixing the outlet and not putting in a new system.

For a long time the corruption and mob rule in the construction trades crippled the region, both Erie and Niagra. The Feds were more effective in cleaning out the hoods in Erie County and Buffalo. You can see the difference.
