Disney / Marvel vs The state of Georgia

Recommended Posts

The Walt Disney Co. and Marvel Studios indicated opposition to a Georgia religious liberty bill pending before Gov. Nathan Deal, saying that they will take their business elsewhere “should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law.”

With generous tax incentives, Georgia has become a production hub, with Marvel currently shooting “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is shooting at Pinewood Studios outside Atlanta, and “Captain America: Civil War” shot there last summer.

Interesting, so new technologies in communication and a new industry to a region is putting pressure on a state to emancipate gays? Sounds similar to something else...

It doesn't. No matter how many threads you say it in, your analysis of history is fundamentally flawed and lacking.

The film tax credit, which Georgia sweetened in 2008 by offering up to 30 percent tax credits to productions with beefy budgets,

has made Georgia a hotbed for movie production – and cost the state’s coffers well over a quarter of a billion dollars.

Gee.

Standing up for principle will cost ya.

.

Religious Liberty = discriminatory practices ...........

I'm disappointed in you greggy. No thread about how the Hulk Hogan verdicts is a part of the vast conspiracy to take away freedom of speech?

First, common sense would dictate you'd post something about free speech in one of the many threads already established on that topic or, you know, start your own.

Second, you obviously have no understanding of my position on this matter, so you only make yourself look foolish with asinine statements like the one above.

You want people to stop "attacking" you, start by posting like an adult.

I didn't read the article but just wanted to comment on the highlighted part. Color me surprised. The question remains however did the Georgia government do an analysis to see if the tax revenue increase from the tax incentives provides a net positive cash flow. Imagine a government operating like a business.

Well, the Bush tax cuts never paid for themselves as it was claimed, but some other tax credits are working fine:

Shouldn't they be called the Obama-Bush tax cuts?

Those Energy Star products are amazing! They save energy even if they don't exist.

...the Government Accountability Office submitted twelve bogus products since last June and all the products got approved. So, if we are going to go green, shouldn't we know what the hell we are doing? The GAO set up fake companies that submitted nonexistent products to test approval procedures at the EnergyStar program. "The fake companies submitted data indicating that the models consumed 20 percent less energy than even the most efficient ones on the market. Yet those applications were mostly approved without a challenge or even questions, the report said."

I am sure those Energy Star tax credits are working just fine ... if you happen to be one of the bureaucrats that administer the program.
