thank goodness they gave the phonetic spelling of Avon, I have always wondered how to pronounce that very hard word

My wife busts mine all the time on how we pronounce towns back there.

Bergen

Chili

Java

To name a few.

On the trip up to Rochester back in August I learned that the second city in the list there wasn't like the food.

And the third not like the coffee and the first not as they do in Germany.

I get Chili, kind of like jai alai with the 'ch' sound, not sure i know of alternate ways to pronounce Bergen or Java. I do know Pulaski has a different pronunciation in Virginia, Pew-lass-ski, but Avon????

Bergen in Germany is pronounced with a hard g we always pronounced it with a soft g. We always pronounced Java Jay-va. She gives me all sorts of **** for that one.

The one in Virginia is pronounced correctly. In NY, we pronounce it Pull-as-sky
