Over 29 years of fanhood Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 So what you are saying is that we should hurt the team overall in other areas to be "creative" in extending him That is going to go over real well in the locker room.....where this is supposed to be Tyrod's greatest attibutes. He has the respect of his team....christ even McCoy calls TT the "Prince of Buffalo" This would be a great poll... if you were Tyrods agent would you: A) say what ever you can to stir the pot and try to lock in some major guaranteed coin for your client and yourself, that can always be tweaked later anyway B) take the position that despite all the great things happening last season, and the risk that the leverage is better now than it may ever be, advise the client to just keep getting better, have an even greater season and the money will come

dave mcbride Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 (edited) You still haven't shown me how it's possible. Stop conflating. None of the rest matters. His "point," is irrelevant. His "case," is irrelevant. His "leverage," is nowhere where you think it is. He has no cards. If he holds out, he risks sucking next year. Good luck with that TT. Cut McCoy. Cut Eric Wood. Cut Manny Lawson. Or do some restructuring. All of these players help the team, but none are great. In combination, they're worth far less than a functional QB. There are other ways to do it too, but it's not worth belaboring the point. There is ALWAYS a way to pay a QB real money. Edited March 23, 2016 by dave mcbride

Dave you need to live in the real world Cut McCoy...ok....riiiiiigggghhhht Cut Eric Wood.....and replace him with what Cut Manny Lawson.....the one LB on the team that actually did well in RR's system.......on a team that is short on 3-4 LBs Get real....this is not a real scenario.....

Cutting McCoy hurts the cap situation--it doesn't help it. The team would take an additional $8M cap hit to cut him. Not a good idea. Cutting Lawson and Wood would save $5.4M--it would also leave you with 1 starting OLB and no starting center. And all of this would be in the name of an effort to give a guy that's already on your roster more money.

He has the respect of his team....christ even McCoy calls TT the "Prince of Buffalo" I'm talking STRICTLY from his perspective. If he wants to get paid, there are ways to force it. Please don't conflate creating a scenario with advocacy for said scenario. The bottom line is that the Bills have NO other option at the most important position. The fate of the entire 2016 season rests on Taylor's performance, and he's being paid less than a bunch of mediocrities on the team. If he wants to act on that, he has a case. But he may not do it. As I said, I doubt he will.

As I said, I doubt he will. Ah ok. I still don't see how holding out would help him--the above changes would still limit how much he could get paid this year, and he'll have less around him to work with, which hinders his long-term case.
dave mcbride Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 We have flown off the planet. What QB has ever demanded a gutting off the roster to get more money? Oh please. All I'm saying is that in theory, this is actually possible because of the relative value of a good QB versus a trio of decent position players. I also was simply saying that he has a case. I don't think it'll happen, however.

I mean ****....while were at it lets just cut half the team and do this now? I mean....who needs 53 NFL players?

dave mcbride Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Not to mention it'd be career suicide. Again, from his perspective, he faces the prospect of actual career suicide before actually getting paid by either blowing out his knee or suffering a shoulder injury in 2016.

Dave I will throw this out there......TT has been betting on himself since he started playing football.......is one more year really gonna make a difference?
FireChan Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Again, from his perspective, he faces the prospect of actual career suicide before actually getting paid by either blowing out his knee or suffering a shoulder injury in 2016. Then I'd trade him and say good riddance. Only a moron QB would think trying to strong-arm his franchise into gutting the roster is a good idea.

If people actually read what I wrote instead of putting on their fan blinders and accusing me of essentially acting as his agent, they'd see what I mean. New Orleans is in the same boat with Brees. He makes a ton of money. They usually have winning seasons, but not every year partly because of cap issues. Yet they were genuine contenders 4 out of the last 7 seasons and never won fewer than 7 games in any of those seasons. Most fans would take that very good albeit uneven performance over a perennial also-ran franchise with good cornerbacks and RBs but no QB. It's a QB league. Edited March 23, 2016 by dave mcbride

Only a moron QB would think trying to strong-arm his franchise into gutting the roster is a good idea. Which I would be Tyrod is not even thinking about asking the team to do......we simply have an agent advocating for his client.....Tyrod is letting him do his job and hasnt said squat personally. I expect him to show up right on time for training camp......

He's been betting on himself with zero track record until now. He now has one, and it's pretty good (albeit limited). His style also exposes him to serious injury.
