ROGER KIMBALL: The lunacy of the ‘largely peaceful protest.’

tragically, three federal officers were likely left permanently blinded by the rioters using lasers pointed directly into their eyes.’

But then ABC got out the sugar and tweeted this about the Oakland incident: ‘Protesters in California set fire to a courthouse, damaged a police station and assaulted officers after a peaceful demonstration intensified.’

‘Intensified’? ‘A peaceful demonstration intensified’? The Twittersphere loved that one. It brought out everyone’s inner imp. The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto was quick off the mark with a delectable contribution to the general levity: ‘It became even more intensely peaceful,’ he wrote in response to ABC’s absurd tweet.

HE’S NOT WRONG:

The rioting and destruction are the point. George Floyd, at this point, is barely even an excuse.

State’s Rights need to be respected but the safety of the citizens of the country need to be protected and if the states don’t provide that protection the Feds need to step in. You know protecting us from enemies foreign and domestic.

Clarity is a good thing, thank you Mr. Barr

Attorney General William Barr Releases Opening Statement for Tuesday’s House Judiciary Hearing—Blows Apart Democrats’ George Floyd Narrative

by Jim Hoft

Original Article

Attorney General Bill Barr released his statement to the House Judiciary Committee scheduled for Tuesday.

Democrats won’t like to hear this fact-check. Police forces today are far more diverse than ever before; there are both more black police chiefs and more black officers in the ranks

Barr testimony delayed after Jerry Nadler gets into car accident

by Mike Brest

Original Article

Attorney General William Barr's testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee has been delayed after Chairman Jerry Nadler was in a car accident on his way to Capitol Hill. Nadler, a New York Democrat, was not injured, a spokesman for the congressman told CNN. Nadler was not driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. The oversight hearing with Barr, originally set for 10 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, is now expected to start 45 minutes behind schedule.

The lunacy of the ‘largely peaceful protest’

by Roger Kimball

Original Article

The great conundrum facing the anti-American left at the moment is how to react to the violent protest ripping up various Democratic-run cities. What is the preferred narrative?

The two main choices are

1) it’s all peaceful protest, the ‘right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances’? o

r 2) let ’er rip: we’re out there destroying stuff and hurting people because the country’s falling apart and the sooner the better.

Actually the car  had a flat when Nadler tried to get in it!

Portland and Seattle are just beyond belief to me. Peaceful protests are fine but violence and vandalism I can't understand .  I do give the protesters credit for ingenuity using leaf blowers against tear gas. If the mayors there don't want federal troops or national guard then it's their police who get injured and all the businesses getting damaged. This is not how MLK and John Lewis protested what a mess.

DISPATCHES FROM THE MEMORY HOLE: Man arrested for driving through protest crowd, but with a couple of big twists.

First of all, the protest in question wasn’t a Black Lives Matter march. It was a Blue Lives Matter demonstration in support of law enforcement officials. Also, the driver in question hadn’t been blockaded in the middle of the street. The protest was taking place on the grassy field of a local park. And the motorist wasn’t “fleeing in terror” from anyone. He deliberately steered his SUV off of the street and went crashing across the park to intentionally run down the demonstrators.

Read the whole thing, which probably won’t be making the evening news broadcasts anytime soo
