It styles itself after Soviet communists who opposed Hitler. Even their flags are the same: Further, they don't try to hide it. They spend time handing out communist literature, and adorn themselves in clothing featuring the hammer and sickle. And while they may have "only" been throwing eggs this time around, they engage in open violence regularly, fully admitting that open violence is part of their mission. You're simply wrong here. It dates back several decades (at least) to Socialist influence in West Germany (and possibly earlier - all the Nazi-era Antifa groups in the Eastern Zone were combined into one officially sanctioned league under Soviet control, so it may data back to the late '40s.) The only difference is that the American Antifa Anglicized "Antifaschistische Aktion," to pretend they're a grassroots movement.
