Probably already discussed, but pats* will be looking to move up in the draft IMO. If there's someone they like they'll package the 2 second rounders to move up. Conversely the Bills may be interested in moving down to acquire extra picks.

Allegedly draft is uber deep on DL, can pick up a stud in the 2nd.

NE draft history says they are more likely to trade down , pick up extra picks and spread out the salary cap and risk of injury over more players.

2007. 28th overall. Traded Down.

2008. 7th overall. Traded Down.

2009. 23rd overall. Traded Down.

2010. 22nd overall. Traded down.

2011. 17th overall. Tackle Nate Solder.

2011. 28th overall. Traded Down.

2012. 27th overall (Aquired from New Orleans) Traded Up.

2012. 31st Overall Traded Up

2013. 29th overall. Traded Down.

I hope that this is true, but I will not believe it until I see it. Whaley seems to have a propensity towards trading up, and for over spending.

dont laugh so hard people. we may do the same thing with Gilmore for the same reason.. can't afford the monster contract coming, so trade him and get some big value well before FA hits... in fact, hmm.. if you believe we will have to pay TT and Sammy next year (yes) .. you actually probably want to do this. Now.

i believe I saw that the highest they can move up is 29th in the 1st rd. due to the parameters of their punishment.

Yeah. If they acquire a pick better than 29 they will lose it and gain the 29th pick back. Punishment is essentially their first 1st round pick.

You are 100% correct, especially if Tyrod improves. It could cost 18 or 20 million per season to keep him if he gets better, which imo he will.

Gilmore will probably cost 13 million per season. I think that he is a good player but I don't thing he is worth that much cap space.

if only we had someone who's personnel approach could match Belichicks successes and failures......

The record shows that they have had many whiffs regarding personnel acquisition despite the genius reputation.

Ty Law: Belichick's personnel approach has cost Patriots championships http://bit.ly/1U8ImYY

Belichick is the greatest head coach in NFL history.

But he's a mediocre personnel man.

The best motivator, the best game planner, the best in-game decision maker, the best offensive system, the best espionage unit.......... and the best QB........they should have won 5-7 of the last 10 Super Bowls.

I missed all his success as a head coach prior to Tom Brady. Amazing how much an all time great qb helps. See Bill Ealsh with and without Montana. Edited by C.Biscuit97

Walsh did just fine with Steve Young. He built his team into a powerhouse and left a great team in Seifert's hands when he walked away.

You're welcome to recall that 2008 Pats team.

Walsh's last year in SF was 1988. Yoing didn't become a full time starter until 1992.

The team that lost 5 more games than the previous year and didn't make the playoffs after going to the SB the year before?

He's a really good coach whose success is tied to one of the greatest players ever. Joe Gibbs won 3 SBs with 3 different Qbs, none who are close to be in the discussion of greatest qb ever. That's a much better coaching job IMO.

It's an interesting strategy. Know who you want. If that guy isn't there, trade down. If there's someone you really like, trade up. Doesn't seem like they ever settle for BPA or best player at position of need.
