Hyperbole doesn't defeat sarcasm.

True, but they both are miserable ways to converse. Lets quit both together, make this board a better place, deal?

It's just a darn shame that this team is always changing course in the middle of a journey. Now the defense needs to be retooled and not just because the team lost some players.

Just think of what this free agency and draft could do to help the offense this season. The team still needs upgrades at RG, RT, a real #2 WR, a #2 TE and depth at several positions. Instead, the team will draft mostly for the defense because the HDAIC got an F in linear theory.

The Bills have made the only decisions they could:

We're so screwed against the cap that we can't do anything in FA. Not sure how we rate a "B" grade, because we won't be signing FA's for anything but the minimum anytime soon. We barely have enough to sign our draft picks this year.

We created that cap problem and then squandered what we had by creating useless dead cap rather than using it on a quality player. We could have kept Mario for about 1 Million more of cap this year, he offered to take a pay cut to stay and instead when he was released by Buffalo he took that cut when he signed with Miami. Now instead of having his way with the Miami defense like he often did, he will have a chance to stick it to Buffalo at least twice a year.

Now we have a huge dead cap hole that can not be spent on a talented player. How many pro bowl players can you have on your team for about a million a year. Waste 7 million on dead cap, or spend 1 million more and have a pro bowler. Easy choice for me. 1 million is barely two lukewarm bodies fresh out of the dumpster at vet minimum.

We now have a hole in defense and have to waste a draft pick on a gamble that some rookie will actually play well enough to earn that 1 million. And use up a draft pick that could have been a LB. a WR, a G or a OT at need.

Free agency grades are pointless. So next offseason the Bills would get credit for re-signing a player like Gilmore, but if they sign him to a long term deal this season while his in his option year, they wouldn't? It makes no sense.

Also gained: Jarrett Boykin, Greg Little, James Wilder, Javier Arenas

Not world beaters obviously but it is depth that was added to roster prior to the start of FA. There were others signed just before the end of the season as well like Greg Salas, Lavar Edwards, and Max Valles. If we are discussing depth lost we can discuss depth gained.

The only ones who are truly lost at this point are Mario, Leo, Bradham, Hogan, Brooks and Charles as they have signed with other teams. Powell, Rambo, Percy and Boobie technically could all return. I do not expect it with Boobie but could see any or all of the other 3 back by the time TC rolls around.

The coaching hires concern me more than the free agency inactivity.

I don't think any of the players that have signed elsewhere were irreplaceable.

This is already obsolete as it doesn't have the Chandler Jones, or Bennett trades. These guys should wait two more weeks before they write one of these meaningless articles as the dust settle in about two weeks and nothing moves until just before or after the draft. A lot of value picks happen in the next 10 days or so.

Re-signing two good players who are key to the offense is treading water?

doesn't make us "better"......keeps us the same.

Good players in their 2nd year in the offensive system is not staying the same IMO. Treading water would be letting them go and getting the same level replacements in the UFA and/or the draft.

returning our entire starting offense in the same system (imagine that) actually does make us better on that side. They will have another entire offseason, OTAs and TC. It's huge IMO. Edited by YoloinOhio

Forget it, he's on a roll.

Experience in a system and an offensive line playing together are good things. You expect growth. But retaining a player who is mid-career is definitely a push from a talent perspective.
