YoloinOhio Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 @albertbreer My understanding is that the Bills' ousting of Karl Dunbar was a normal firing. Nothing salacious. Dunbar still hopes to coach this season.
Bad Things Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I really don't see why so many people are trying to turn this into a big scandal. (Apart from that being TBD's standard modus operandi.) The DL was Karl Dunbar's responsibility. The DL not only stunk to high heaven, but certain high profile players simply gave up on plays, while other players openly questioned aspects of the defence and DL. (Dareus not seeing eye-to-eye with Dunbar, Mario complaining and then quitting...) So, Dunbar (an underachieving position coach) gets fired and all of a sudden it's a scandal? Hopefully the new guy will come in a light a fire under these guys butts.
The Big Cat Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 RossTuckerNFL Nothing normal about firing a coach in mid-March. In response to Breer tweet.
Saxum Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Evidently something in post season, pre-draft review triggered this. He is still getting paid so it really comes down to replacement coach being available that head coach thinks will do a better job. Evidently it is a college coach with baggage but it appears almost all candidates have baggage these days.
Peter Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) Bills reportedly are hiring former UNC DL Coach John Blake. Blake wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Blake_(American_football) Blake was the Cowboys DL coach from 1993 - 1995. Blake was Oklahoma's HC from 1986-98. Blake also received a three year show cause from the NCAA for his time at UNC. The Big Cat Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Blake was the HC at OU when Rex was DC. So there's that.

GO BILLS!!!
Big Turk Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Wouldn't be surprised if Rex and Rob sat down and did some in depth studying of the defense and came to that conclusion about Dunbar...no inside info but it would make sense

Very agressive. But that means the backend better be up to it. In NO it wasn't. He doesn't know any other way to coach. Edited March 15, 2016 by TheTruthHurts
26CornerBlitz Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 @CoachSamz Sources tell FootballScoop that former UNC DL coach John Blake is joining Rex Ryan and the Bills as DL coach http://footballscoop.com/the-scoop/

After watching this nightmare in NO for the last few years there is nothing to love about Rob Ryan. He was so, so bad.
Big Turk Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 After watching this nightmare in NO for the last few years there is nothing to love about Rob Ryan. He was so, so bad. His D was ranked 4th I believe the year we played them... I think the amount of money and resources spent on offense didn't help, as well as paying big money to a part time player like Jairius...
YoloinOhio Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 (edited) Apparently Blake has trained with Jerry Hughes. And mentor to JPP since his accident. http://m.newsok.com/john-blake-emerges-as-mentor-to-jason-pierre-paul/article/5457804 Truthfully, Blake is miscast as a college coach. Organization and attention to detail are not Blake strong suits. Relationships always were Blakes best attribute, and working in concert with individual players is perfect for Blake Edited March 15, 2016 by YoloinOhio
4merper4mer Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Organization and attention to detail are not Blake strong suits Wow. He should get along well with Rex. Coaches who aren't organized but expect players to understand calls like Romeo-jumbo-matchstick-stiletto-gap3-5Iron-Warandpeacepage914paragraph5sentencetwoword5-pedicure-flare44-circle that come in one second before the snap. Great.
YoloinOhio Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 The si.com article on the UNC investigation that I linked to earlier in the thread discusses links to Rex and Dareus (he tried to recruit him to UNC)
