BADOLBILZ Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) Reggie Ragland says hello Here is a best case scenario for how a Reggie Ragland Bills career ends: "Well, he was good, but we aren't going to pay an ILB $10-11M per year." Say no to drafting for need and drafting positions early that need to be filled late. With the 90% rule dictating that teams actually must use their cap space and with greater percentages of contracts being guaranteed....thus bogging down caps with dead money......the wild west free agency periods where teams show up with $70M in unused space every year are going to go by the wayside. It is going to become increasingly more important that teams get their star players at key positions early in the draft. ILB ain't one of those. Edited March 11, 2016 by #BADOL
nucci Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) Did he not grade out as one of the best run stopping LB's in the league just two years ago while playing for us? Was he not another part of a top 5 defense? That was his game in NE as well, an excellent LB against the run. and he hasn't played in 2 years...do you think he got an better sitting around not playing? He certainly didn't younger or faster...Everyone wants to to backward around here.... Edited March 11, 2016 by nucci
BuffaloBill Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Again with this ****? #offseason It is a painfully slow one for the Bills. Addition by subtraction really.

Saxum Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 The guy shouldn't cost much and we know he can be a thumper against the run. We need depth at LB and he could surely provide that. More likely he would go to Eagles.
nucci Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) If you mean go back to having a top 5 defense then yes, yes we do want to go backward around here. and Spikes is going to do this for us? Why is there no demand for his services around the NFL if he is so valuable? Edited March 11, 2016 by nucci

Maybe not spikes but player like spikes on the cheap has place. if you can dedicate 4-5 guys to ST only you can dedicate a big downhill hitter in situational football. he must be smart though. How many time i saw Brandon going to the play before the snap. Made up for his lack of speed on the other hand maybe is just smokin dope and eatin Cheetos
K-9 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) understood. But tell me why it's not worthwhile having a thumper in there? Why we can't throw him on field for a down and put an extra db in? Late playcalls aside, I'm for spikes. Rex's 3 safety sets running the safety/Jack LB with spikes at mike "Thumpers", assuming you mean two-down LBs who bring nothing else in terms of pursuit, coverage, etc., are just too easily isolated and exploited by offenses today. We saw that time and again in 2014 when both Spikes and Brown were exposed when made to run and cover. If an offense is gonna give you the luxury of bringing in their jumbo sub package that also allows you time to counter with a thumper, fine. But that luxury is getting rarer. Better to find a guy that can play effectively in all situations. GO BILLS!!! Edited March 11, 2016 by K-9

I think one of the faults of the Spikes idea is it may not fit Rexys system and how he wants his linebackers to play. I could imagine that depends also on what kind of safeties he has who can come down and or cover. Spikes is antiquated. But are younger fresher players like him a thing of the past?

Ragland is not my favorite prospect in this draft and I think we can find a better athlete for the position. But I understand he helped to ease concerns about his 3 down ability during Senior Bowl week. I would think Rex and Co. would prefer an athletic pass-rushing edge guy over a guy like Ragland. As I said earlier, I think LBs like Spikes are becoming a thing of the past. You gotta have guys who can do both and stay on the field. GO BILLS!!!

Ideally , Teams would never have to sub in players unless winded. But is it realistic? Folks complain about Dline having to drop into a short zone, but really, player flexibility goes a rather long way for Coaches i imagine.
Pirate Angel Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 He is a hindrance in the Defense, The difference in his abilities to stop the run and cover has to be the biggest Jekyll and Hyde of abilities in the league. There is a reason he isn't being signed. The coaches that watch the tape know that any good offense has the ability to audible into a Pass play when he is on the field.
