OT US soccer

Not nearly as annoying as real commercials.  Reading the word Viagra on a banner during play is nothing compared to stopping the game to have some creepy fugger wink at me and stick his symbolic boner through this smiling wife's symbolic "tire swing."

No, instead they stop the game because some wuss got tripped and is now rolling around like he got sniped by a .50 cal. He only gets up after some Gary Betteman looking reject holds up a mustard or ketchup flag.

As near as I can tell, there are about 5 rules. The dumbest is: if an offensive player gets behind you without the ball, it's ok. They're offside. Why wouldn't you want a game decided by a skills competition at the highest level?

Sorry Pats and Eagles. We know you played your hearts out, but the Championship of the world is going to be decided by which 5 guys run the 40 fastest. :o

It also makes it a little difficult when there is only one person on the field who actually knows when the game is going to end. Time runs out, but the game does not end because the referee has added extra time for this or that.

ahh...the lovely TBD soccer thread that emerges every once in a while.

The rest of the world things NFL football is boring. American's think soccer is boring. The rest of the world doesn't understand football. American's don't understand soccer.

Pretty simple. Both are great games but if you don't understand the game, your going to think it's boring. But I'd be watching the world cup final before the superbowl any time (well, unless the Bills were playing!)

No, actually the rest of the world can't afford to do American football. Most can only afford soccer, so they got hooked on it.

you all make me laugh, same old soccer clichés, like the ones i hear everyday about football..; it's incredible how blind people can be if a game come from the other side of the Pond... those two games are the best in the world and i'm glad i  can enjoy both.

I'll tell you what......we don't even need football to be the best game in world. Hell, soccer can have that title. Football is the best in America. By far. All of the other league's combined aren't nearly as popular or passionate in America.

It's the best run sports league, the richest, and it's ours. Thank God we have it, so we don't have to have soccer.

We're (US) wrong evidently, and it feels soooooooooooooooo good to be so!

Field fairies.

Seriously, I know enough about the game as my childs team needed a coach. A friend was a high-level college coach trained me and helped me with the children. However, if my child didn't play it then I never would watch it. It is aweful, borning and too be honest pretty inane. The whole breaking on the ball and not getting behind the defender before the ball is passed is the stupidest rule in all of sports.

She wants to play again, and I know I would get suckered into at least asst. coaching, but too be honest I am avoiding and kind of ignoring the request.

It is boring. Did I tell you it is BORING?

So, do you think it is boring?

My brother plays high school soccer. I think soccer is pretty boring, and what I always ask him is why don't soccer teams kick the ball deep into the other teams end, just leave one or two guys on the midfield line and attack the ball? If a player can't go behind the last guy back without being called for offsides, then what's the risk? There's not much of a chance that a guy can outrun everybody and maintain control of the ball for an entire half of a soccer field.

Anyways soccer is boring, whether or not I "understand" it. All I need to know is there's hardly any scoring, hardly any scoring chances, and a lot of diving & overacting to get penalties. That's more than enough for me.

Looking at stevestojan's links in this post > looking at soccer

I enjoy watching the World Cup. Just try it sometime. No, I mean REALLY try it. Make a decision to watch as much of the series as possible and learn the rules of the game. Just like most other sports, if you have a team to follow and get to know the players, you will care who wins and it won't be boring.

I remember back in another life when I absolutely HATED American Football. I was a die-hard Aussie Rules fan and thought that Football over here was a bunch of pansies running around protected by all that padding and were so spoiled by not having to play the entire game as offense AND defense. And to make it even worse, they actually got to set up to kick the ball!! I was bored to death for years. Until I moved to WNY, started following a team (Bills) and started learning the game.
