BuffaloBill Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Who wins the totally subjective choice as the Bills best draft pick ever? Your thoughts? I would argue that OJ gets the prize for the combination of his play and then his trade which indirectly led to the selection of Jim Kelly. Without that trade who knows where Jim, arguably the winner of best Bills draft pick ever, ends up.
CommonCents Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Reed was a 4th rounder that has to be high on the value meter.
Jauronimo Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Very good value picks, Kyle in the 5th and Stevie Johnson in the 7th.
BillsFanM.D. Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 If you can make an argument (and not get laughed at) that a draftee became the best player ever on his side of the ball ....it's a no brainer choice. As above...#78.
BuffaloBill Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Ed Wang. He certainly stood up... Or maybe stood out... Ended up a little too soft for the job....

Chandler#81 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 OJ & Bruce don't really apply here, IMO. They were both taken #1 overall. These picks are expected to be perennial Pro-Bowlers, HOF candidates if they have a long, healthy career. Tom Sestak, 17th Round pick '62

26CornerBlitz Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 So does Tom Cousineau and a host of others. No doubt about that. Plenty of overall #1 picks were flat out busts.
Chandler#81 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 1971 7th round...Bobby Chandler Bravo, Nuc! Patulski & Cousineau didn't have long, healthy careers. Of course a team can wiff on the #1 overall. But they're the exception.
The Real Buffalo Joe Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) Depends how you look at it with Jim. At the time, it was a stupid pick because he wouldn't come here, and he ended up going to Houston. However, our decision to keep his rights instead of take compensation picks (correct me if I'm wrong on what we could have had if we gave up on him), that aspect was genius, but even that was a gamble (no pun intended.).
