This is such a fallacy.

Mario gave up because he hated the new defensive system. Not saying it's right but he clearly disagreed with what was being asked of him.

We lost ton of games from 2012-2014, I didn't see him give up then.

Scott,

We will soon see

You know there is a possibility that Mario is just at that age where performance no declines if the effort is not there

I personally expect him to have 1 year with the fins were he gives effort and does well......there is a reason why he went to the bills

but he just as easily could collect that last paycheck and be done

Dude. Seriously. Even if this is true, what does it say about Mario's character and integrity? Will that suddenly change?

His character was such an impediment in averaging 10 sacks a year for his career. Will that change?

Mario is 31 years old can you say with certainty that he's the same player he was 2 years ago?

Maybe last year wasn't just about Rex's scheme but maybe his tires are getting a little worn?

Its certainly possible. But you weren't arguing that he's on the decline or doesn't have anything left in the tank. You said:

Im glad he's going to the Dolphins, once the honeymoon wears off he will tank for them too just like he did for the Texans and Bills.

Tankers gonna eventually tank, he is a poor character, discontented guy that can only tolerate faking fitting in for so long.

I thought it was worth pointing out that by your definition, tanking means an average of 10 sacks per season. I wish all our DEs tanked like that.

Mario's played for 2 teams and quit on 2 teams, his stats speak for themselves.

He robbed the Bills last year and was one of the major factors in them missing the playoffs but if you want to defend someone who stole our lunch money and kicked us in the nuts so be it.

Yes they do. 10 SACKS PER F@#$ING YEAR. They speak loudly. And unless the IR is quitting, he didn't quit on the Texans. How many times must we go over this?

I'm not defending his performance last year, but lets make honest arguments rather than push some butt hurt narrative.

OK, he was butt hurt by the Texans to use your slang and only quit against the run while with them.

Mario is still a quitter, last year speaks for itself, good riddance.

If I am the Fish, I don't sign Mario. I cut Wake, sign Vernon with the money currently committed to Mario

and Wake, draft another pass rusher, don't trade for maxwell, sign a OT in FA with that cap money, draft a corner with #8 pick. Sign Lamar Miller.

Younger and better.

Point taken. I wonder what he could have averaged if he gave a damn.

he will take two steps toward midfield, stop.

Yep.

After all of the millions that he made as a Buffalo Bill, I am still waiting for him to display the same class a Leodis, Boobie, and Kraig Urbik. I have a feeling that I will have to keep on waiting.

On a positive note, the deer in Orchard Park are happy.

Well thanks for !@#$ing us last year then, 94

@omarkelly

"Everything is going to be fine. It's going to be right back to where it used to be," Mario Williams on claims his effort was bad in 2015.

Wait until he feels that Gameday energy from the 20 fans!

@omarkelly

"I think the biggest thing talking to Dolphins was they bring you excitement and a level of energy I feel I've never had before," Williams

IMO, this is a very dumb move on Mario's part. Mario is 31, is on his third team and has only been to the playoffs one time in his career. At this stage of his career, wouldn't have been a smart move to try and sign with a contender and have a shot at a Superbowl? Signing with the Dolphins shows he is only concerned with playing against Rex twice a year.

This is as good of a thread as any to post this comparison (from NFL.com)

The Panthers released defensive end Charles Johnson last Thursday when he was set to count more than $15 million on the salary cap. They agreed to re-sign him on Tuesday for $3 million, despite getting offers for double that elsewhere. A lot of players say it's not about the money, but Johnson truly meant it. As Johnson showed in the Super Bowl, he still has plenty of snaps left as a solid starter. The Panthers were thin at defensive end if he left, and Johnson ultimately spurned division rivals (Tampa) after visiting with them, just like he spurned a big-free agent offer from theAtlanta Falcons in 2011.

I would rather have Johnson than Mario Williams at any salary, much less at less than half the price.

Johnson staying "home" with the Panthers is a cool story, just like Tamba Hali's contract with theChiefs. It would be strange to see Hali play in any other uniform. One year after taking a paycut to stay on the roster, Hali earned his three-year, $22 million deal.

I do not judge anyone for taking top dollar in a profession where the average career lasts three years, no contract is guaranteed, and your life expectancy is inversely correlated with how long you play the game. I'm not taking less money for the opportunity to elevate my firm to the top of the rat race.

Wrong analogy. Would you take more money but move your firm to a more shady line of business?

Mario has made plenty of money in his career after 10 seasons. Many veterans begin to think of opportunities to win a championship in the late stages of their careers. You'd think that would be a motivator for Mario given that he has not even appeared in a playoff game.
