The hard arithmetic is that we needed cap space, badly, to sign 2 key OLmen. We could make the RFA tenders with small moves like McKelvin and Booby D, but Glenn and Incognito were going to require serious cap space. And Mario was the obvious candidate, the significant cap hit where the dead money was large, but about 1/3 of the total hit.

Concerns about production and scheme and Rex aside, we didn't lose an "all pro DE" for nothing. We lost him for a OLT and an OLG. The fact that he didn't play like an all pro DE this most recent season, simply made the hard arithmetic easier to swallow.

Certainly a fair assessment. And, I wouldn't see any reason to believe that he would return to form next season playing for the same DC and HC. That being said, I hate that he went to Miami, because I also don't see any reason why he couldn't return to form somewhere else, and it would suck if that place is Miami.

5. I think the most mysterious two players in free agency are Mario Williams and Victor Cruz. I have no clue if Cruz will ever be the electric player he once was. How can anyone know? He last played 17 months ago. What a phenom—18.7 yards per catch in his breakout year, 2011. But we don’t know who he is anymore. Regarding Williams, he’s 31 and coming off a grousing five-sack season playing for a coach whom pass-rushers love. I don’t get Williams’ dissatisfaction with Rex Ryan. But how do you figure what to pay each one of those players? I’d do heavily incentive-laden deals for both.

Writers who aren't Bills fans (or Jets fans, for that matter) don't understand a lot about Rex Ryan.

Probably a fair assessment, IMO.

Looks like Mario will finish out his career as a loser. His teams only made the playoffs one time out of his 10 years in the league, at that was the season he was injured. So obviously, he's not a critical ingredient to winning games.

The sole reason we finished 9-7 in 2014 was because of Mario and the defense.

People are really reaching to put Mario down. But yeah because he couldn't elevate Kyle Orton to the playoffs, he is a loser. Great logic.

Totally. F@#$ing loser chooses to get drafted by the hapless Texans and then when his contract is up and he hits free agency, the moron decides to sign with the dumpster fire that is the Buffalo Bills!!!

Loser.

People seem to over look the fact that just a year ago we had a top 5 defense with every key piece coming back. Here we are a year later running a 3-4, needing 4 to 5 starters on defense with little to no cap room to find those players.

They overlook it or find any way possible to ignore it....

These are my thoughts

Mario should have thrown more tds. He sucks.

What kinda basement dwelling, never been laid, terminal loser would willfully associate themselves with the Buffalo Bills??? And for what, like $100 million tops??? Real winners do it for free.

But he had a ton of deer in his backyard. And he got a mini fridge in camp. Life's all about the perks

Real winners do it for virtually free after they cashed in on the big contract.

That was a big miss.

Professionals play out their contract and give it their all. I'm not defending what he did last year. Unfortunately, his three excellent seasons will be overcast by his 2015 performance. Calling the guy a loser for coming to Buffalo the one time he had a choice of where he played has some interesting implications on us miserable gugnys.

And that also is fair. Me personally, I wanted to root for him so bad and even appreciated his quiet personality. But once he started calling out the scheme this year, that gave me pause. Then to hear the "Rex has to meet me halfway" talk, I was like ehhhh... Then to see the compiled video evidence put together recently sold me. Dude just quit on his team this season. Thanks for the memories, homeslice. Don't let the door hit you in the A.

And he's just as happy to be gone.

Yes I am a Bills fan.

with the dream team going to Miami they are doomed to fail

I hope Mario tears us apart. I hope we win. But I hope he has 5 sacks in each game against us.

UM NO, what are you talking about, it's nor we lost anything, if anything it is addition by subtraction
