Are you suggesting there is a QB in this draft worth more than our current 19th pick? That's a pretty complicated question, really. In the unlikely event Wentz became available beyond the second pick, how much sacrifice would he be worth? Seems like he was barely on anybody's radar until the combine. Goff? Is he worth more than our 19th?

I was saying more in general. I'm not really in love with any qb in this draft that is considered a 1st rounder.

what if Jaylon Smith (LB Notre Dame) who is ranked ahead of Miles Jack falls and is still on board at #19 ?? (due to injury)

Smith is a tremendous prospect but I think Jack is a better fit in RR defense because of his extraordinary cover potential in what amounts to a "coverage and blitzing" defense.

But he isn't just a system pick.......he is IMO the more talented player even when both are healthy........but Smith is a more finished product and a better edge pass rusher(which wouldn't show as well in RR D, IMO).

In general I am not expecting a huge contribution from this years class because the Bills systems are complicated but I think Jack could be a pro bowl type player year one.

The term "nerve damage" has been thrown around with Smith and that would make me very leery.

The Bills had a tremendous young LB named Damien Covington whose career ended very unexpectedly because of nerve damage("drop foot") after a knee injury.

I don't think he would be a sound value pick in round one if there are concerns about him regaining full nerve function........ but that's just based on what I've heard on NFL network.

Is there any chance that Whaley pulls off a trade to move up in the draft? If so, who would he be going after? What would he be willing to give up?

To me it seems highly improbable given all of the needs this team has both immediately and moving forward. I honestly think he went after Sammy to make the EJ situation work not simply because the Bills really wanted Sammy that badly.

I just don't see him doing anything in the first round.

I think the odds are pretty good.

Whaley (imo) has proven that he will spend the Pegula's money and resources like a drunken sailor. I have little reason to think that he can/will contain himself. I think that a good, disciplined GM can improve this team without squandering our future.

The above is not to say he has never made any good moves. He has, but he is far from my image of a good GM.

Again, the above is simply my opinion.

I would hope he is far from your image of a bad GM as well. In my opinion, the worst thing one could say about Whaley at this point is that he's middle of the pack.

I think Whaley will deal next year's #1 and possibly a #2 or #3 to move up into the top six picks to take Myles Jack.

And while Jack is a generational linebacker, I suspect next year's #1 will be needed for a QB. But it won't matter to this regime if I'm right, because they won't be here for the 2017 draft...

While it is indeed far-fetched, and it has the potential to be a categorically damning move going forward, I'd be ecstatic if they landed Jack.

He is the guy from this draft that I'd want to build my defense around.

Jaylon Smith will fall out of the 1st Round entirely. He might be a day two pick, but some teams are calling him undraftable at this point. His medical re-check in April is going to be huge for him.

they should trade back for more picks in the 2nd and 3rd. this cap situation will only be tighter next year and we will need more talent to fill in for guys who are released next offseason.. no trading up for shiny toys this year IMO

It's amazing to watch the GM squander resources and produce so little in 3 seasons. Levy/Jauron/Brandon were able to pilot the team to three straight 7-9 finishes. And they "achieved" that record in a division where New England was so dominant and the other teams were average to mediocre. Not to mention, Marv, Dick, and Russ had much less financially to work with.

I know there are those who think Whaley's outstanding and it's not his fault Buffalo's been mediocre during his GM tenure. If he trades up in 2016 it's because his and perhaps Rex have jobs on the line. Even if they sit tight at 19, the likelihood that player makes Buffalo tremendously better is slim to none.

?

I think the Giants are looking at him right now. and he is out of Bills price range.

Bills better load up on front seven and hit at least on two of them.

of course as mentioned it may not be likely to get someone to trade up with the Bills. But think it would be ideal

I was suggesting that we'll draft the NT from Baylor, not acquire some FA.

That is my thought, mostly. Fill the need via the draft. and no need to get one early IMO. he will be rotational player don't you think ?

You watched those Jauron teams, right? You saw how they beat bad teams and lost to every good team they played, right? Are you really suggesting the Bills of the last two seasons (Whaley's teams) are putting the same sort of product on the field?

How much different was a Jauron win from the Dallas and Tennesee games this year?

I find the potential to trade up high for a potentially great defensive player (just not good) - like a Myles Jack.
