eball Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Obviously. I would hope his goal isn't to discourage him. boyst is saying he did a poor job concocting/executing the plan of motivating him. Ok, yeah, so I worded that awkwardly. I disagree that telling a young guy he's smart enough to do the job and he needs to step up is going to reduce the likelihood of that happening. I also wonder where this "Rex can't motivate" stuff is coming from -- pretty much everywhere he has been players have said the opposite. My view of Rex's flaws pertain primarily to how he handled his offense with the Jets and his game management decisions -- not that he lacks the ability to motivate. Mario Williams is a strange cat -- let's not allow one disgruntled star's moodiness and lack of character to define a head coach.
3rdand12 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 When Manny Lawson is the success story of your defense you have problems IMO. This is true, No offense Manny.
boyst Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 When Manny Lawson is the success story of your defense you have problems IMO. i'd 100% agree if this was not a chris brown piece. since it is, i agree 99.15%
C.Biscuit97 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Manny Lawson is the one player who improved in Rex's system.
Rockinon Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Yes. Look no further than Kellen Moore and Ryan Fitzpatrick for 80% of the explanation. Not really. The defense looked like they getting lined up to make a play quicker. They appeared to be communicating on the field better and got after the QB better. A lot of things seemed to be clicking. It was apparent that everyone knew their assignment and playing as one cohesive unit.

I hate being a negative fan. It sucks. But anyone you wAnt to slice it, our defense sucked.
Beerball Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Manny Lawson is the one player who improved in Rex's system. Inside he did. Outside he was horrid (IMO).
Rockinon Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Guys tend to buy in to systems that work. Rex's doesn't. it is as simple as that. The obvious and best solution is to modify the system but Rex seemingly can't. So he is left in a position where he has to lash out at Brown wishing he was Ray Lewis or something. He isn't. I believe Rex's heart is in the right place. It is his brain that is the problem. Lash out? Rex is the coach. His job is to be critical of the players. He also said that the plan going forward was to get him more involved. You make it sound like he was throwing him under the bus or something. Brown is young and needs to improve his craft. Nothing wrong with telling him so.

It's funny the players who choose to call out in the media. For all the talk of Mario quitting here, I never heard Rex call him out. Or Jerry Hughes or other players for dumb penalties.

C.Biscuit97 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I agree...it sucked. Just not so much the last couple of games. But as others said, it was because of the Qbs. Moore might not be in the NFL this year and Fitz (who I love) Fitzed. I think it was more about those guys screwing up and not being good that our defense clicking. Hopefully, Rex and the defense shoves it into the doubters' faces this year. But this year was a total disappointment.

Or Jerry Hughes or other players for dumb penalties. I don't know that he was calling him out then. I'm pretty sure all season the coaching staff was all ready pushing him. How could they not since Brown was the one calling the plays on the field. Rex mentioned to the media what Brown needed to work on. Brown and the rest of the team all ready knew that. When Rex spoke to the media, he all ready called him out. Probably long before that day.

One of my biggest problems with Rex is he doesn't hold players accountable enough. I josh he did it more and did it to the star players as well.
3rdand12 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I agree...it sucked. Just not so much the last couple of games. there was improvement. teamed looked like they finally were on the same page. regardless of the competition they looked solid and competitive

I think those games were more about the defense and less about the opposing QB, but then again what do I know. And Amen to the disappointing season and turning it around this year.

I'd agree if Rex was critical of him in the locker room. Brown is young and does need to improve. It will be harder in a system that allows him .000878 seconds to call a play but improve he must. The part that bothers me is Rex telling him to improve by whining about him in the press. That is a joke.

I tend to think Rex had been working with Brown all season long and was getting frustrated enough to say something to the media and also to let Lawson take over the job at the end of the year. One thing I do know is young guys often don't take criticism well. Maybe Rex felt he needed to push his buttons a little harder. We can only speculate but I'm not ready just say Rex was wrong. He may very well have had a good reason to be vocal about it. Maybe blowhard Rex should have kept his big mouth shut. Either way, I don't think we have enough information say one way or the other.
