GunnerBill Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Tough to argue with an idealist. You're absolutely correct. But you're an idealist. There is nothing idealist about what Thurmanator wants. Nothing. He just wants to NFL to reflect the reality of the 21st century and if we take your view that "oh well it is just part of the ritual humiliation" and expect that nobody should expose that is should stay behind the cloak or respectability that these teams try and pull off the we will never drag the NFL forward. IT's a totally unacceptable question. If someone asked it to me in a job interview - indeed if someone asked me the question you say that you were asked in a job interview I would immediately terminate the interview.

GunnerBill Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 whose reality? I stopped reading after that. I had to go back to my safe space. The reality that we live in where homosexual people in most of the western world have absolutely equal rights in law to heterosexual people and therefore the question of one's sexuality is entirely irrelevant to one's employment. You might not like that reality.... but that is the reality so go back to your safe place where you can believe whatever you like.

I guess then you just invalidate all the points made in this thread about the NFL NOT being of the same standards for the rest of the "western world."
Direhard Fan Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) Me think we are getting too political here. We are talking football. Sure can tell when things get slow during the season. I want to know if they signed Richie yet. Thats important. Makes me laugh you guys. The only gay on our team is Gay and he just got married. Borned with the name and he made out fine. Not a bad kicker either. Edited March 5, 2016 by Direhard Fan
Formerly Allan in MD Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 The question may be a southern thing. The birds wouldn't want to be embarrassed in front of their "progressive" fans.

3rdand12 Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 I thought you were an idiot that was full of crap, but then you used the word "whilst", and I thought "This guy is pretty sharp!" once i awhile he shows up with his thesaurus and an attitude. alway a pleasure for me actually. i also in possession of these tools of effective elocution. But perhaps I am not one to bandy it about over such persnickety matters of irrelevance though. Fire up the outrage machine! SJWs....Mount Up! giddy up !

No . This is obviously different. Smoking weed is a breach of the NFL's rules and is actually illegal. That is not the same as asking about someone's religion or sexuality in any way. what about if he watched Jersey Shore or HGTV? he grew up in a fairly upper middle class community in Jersey. I think this is inappropriate but not in such a way that may lead to prejudice so if they want to ask it fine... but I still wouldn't answer it in the player's position. Honestly I know our countries are two cultures with a shared language but the idea in Britain that you would or could ask someone about their sexuality, relationship status or religion in a job interview would leave most incredulous. Our law contains significantly stronger restrictions on that than I understand apply in America. Edited March 5, 2016 by GunnerBill
3rdand12 Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Gunner Bill. You have/had a title that trained your mindset.. HR is a very different animal than say military boot camp. I appreciate your value system without question. But the kid was just a kid who got beat by the question perhaps. Looking at the context of how he revealed himself seemed casual enough. You know as well as i even in the professional world , one needs to work through irregularities in conduct. I think this is much ado about nothing. a footnote perhaps.

What about what was your family life like and what did your parents do for a living? this is my favorite. see, this. they asked Dez bryant this and he said his dad was a pimp. when asked what his mom did and bryant replied he worked for my dad...well, ireland asked if his mom was a prostitute. of course that takes sensational headlines to think it went otherwise, which most did. but hey, i bet a lot of teams saw that bryant was as unstable as he has proven in the interviews. and is that so bad? the guy has been a nut, a freaking nut. in fact, click on the link above. all those questions seem to be fine. but with todays PC police and sjw's ... don't ever talk about being a homosexual or of another race. also read THIS. again, how are any of those questions legal? this stuff is out there every year and now we're suddenly some advanced culture that doesn't accept that. but look at those articles and go back 20 years to where Manning was at University of Teabagessee. This has been par for the course for a long time and you mean to tell me no one has sued yet? no one has been sad or cried?
GunnerBill Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Which law was violated? There was no direct legal infraction under US Federal law insofar as I understand it but we all have the same rights.... that isn't just a value it is underpinned and recognised by law. The NFL is bound to feel very nervous about any inference that one might be prejudiced in one's employability.
