D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 RIP it is http://deadspin.com/nfl-makes-all-chop-blocks-illegal-1766406117?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow I have heard before where OL coach's have said you would NOT be able to effectively run the ball in the NFL without the ability to chop block.
YoloinOhio Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 @shaunohara Rule change on #ChopBlock will be hard to enforce. Judgement call by ref, am I ENGAGED or AVOIDING the DL? #GoodLuck
Homey D. Clown Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 @Adamschefter Big ramifications: NFLs competition committee considering a rule that would eliminate the chop block for 2016 season, per league sources. Could negatively impact Bills run game/offense... Doomed I don't think we could fail to make the playoffs any harder. We're doing a good job of not reaching them without the ramifications of this new rule. Point is, we can't be any more doomed than we already are. ha.
Freddie's Dead Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 There is a difference between a chop block and a cut block. I believe what they're talking about here is the cut block.

YoloinOhio Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 @salsports Seems to be confusion on Chop Block vs. Cut Block and what the new rule means exactly. So, I tried to help. Here: http://www.wgr550.com/pages/22593959.php?contentType=4&contentId=18594982
ALF Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 It might mean more QB injuries if defenders get past OL.
BuffaloMatt Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Zone blocking run heavy teams will be hurt the most.

D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Why is it the only thing that goes through my mind when I see this is ?....one more judgement call for the refs to f-up games with.
YoloinOhio Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 Why is it the only thing that goes through my mind when I see this is ?....one more judgement call for the refs to f-up games with.oh - for sure. That was my thought too. I predict it will be called inconsistently :/
vincec Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 (edited) I'm not following the judgement thing. It sounds like anytime you block a guy low when he's already engaged, run or pass, it's a penalty. Where's the judgement call? Edited March 24, 2016 by vincec
YattaOkasan Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Anyone bored enough to figure out how many times we would've been called for the new penalty in 2015? PFF (They like to watch every play right)?

machine gun kelly Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Yes it is the chop block where a guy goes high and another goes low. The cut block is downfield, and DB's you still have to deal with it. As far as the impact on our running game, I don't know at this point. We'll find out in 6 months.
vincec Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 i think it's at the point of whether or not he's engaged As far as judgement calls go, I'd say this one is pretty clear. It's nothing like PI for example.
Big Turk Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Lol, they called the Bills for it anyway, can't say I really care
