YoloinOhio Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Thought they were going to wait @tydunne #Bills have reached out to Tyrod Taylor's agent on a new deal. "This is a week where well delve more into it. Well see where it goes.
Maury Ballstein Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Noooooooooo ! Wait to make sure he doesn't stink next year.
BarleyNY Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I don't like that one bit. It makes the most sense for them to wait and see if he improves this season. TT seemed fine with that, so why rock the boat? I don't like that this could become a distraction.
Doc Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Most likely a reasonable deal that protects them.
Nanker Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Keep him in the fold. They can redo it after this year if he plays lights-out. Make everybody happy. Happy, happy, happy.
BillsVet Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Makes you wonder why, after the season Whaley was so adamant about needing another year to watch TT. Just a guess, but the team is taking heat in NFL circles paying their starting QB so little. And if there's one thing we know about OBD, it's that they're scared to death of criticism and will act to squelch it. And if they're reaching out to TT's agent you'd hope it's a bridge contract, but knowing the front office they'll act out of fear and doing something irrational. Like pay him starter money before they should.
Maury Ballstein Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 And if there's one thing we know about OBD, it's that they're scared to death of criticism and will act to squelch it. Elaborate? Do tell

Pete Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Tyrod and EJ are both free agents after the season. It makes sense to be proactive now
FireChan Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Did the Seahawks take heat for paying Russ minimum for 3 years, especially the year after winning the SB? He was on a mandated rookie deal.
Mr. WEO Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Keep him in the fold. They can redo it after this year if he plays lights-out. Make everybody happy. Happy, happy, happy. Little chance the Bills would redo his brand new deal after one lights out season.
YoloinOhio Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 A bridge deal possible?that was my thought too
Maddog69 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 It certainly makes sense to have discussions. If he and his agent are willing to accept a reasonable deal, great. If not, let things play out. I don't expect the Bills to be running to the table with a $100m deal right now.

What sense would it make for him to come out and say "Oh boy, TT is awesome and we are going to break the bank to re-sign him at any cost".

YoloinOhio Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) TT has often mentioned how much he looked at Flacco as a mentor. I wonder if, given how Flacco made a bet on himself in a contract year instead of signing an early extension (and won), that plays into what TT is thinking at this time? Would he rather do a safer bridge deal or risk it and see if he can really cash in next year? Clearly there is more risk though for him than there was for Flacco, who was going to get a sizable contract either way as a 1st round pick who had been to the playoffs already. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/02/25/bills-to-delve-more-into-tyrod-taylor-extension-talks-this-week/ Edited February 25, 2016 by YoloinOhio
