H2o Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Is this a ploy to try to repair his image so to speak before he gets released and hits the open market?
thebandit27 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 we take at least a 7m hit whether he's here or not though I thought. So wonder what he's willing to do in a new deal. I originally thought he wouldn't agree to an extension. It could end up opening more cap space to keep him on a new deal than cutting him. Unless I'm not looking at the contract right. He's got $7M in guaranteed money left on the cap ($3.8M in signing bonus money and two separate $1.6M option bonuses that are fully-guaranteed). As long as that guaranteed money is counted against the cap at some point moving forward, then they haven't skirted the rules in any way. Is this a ploy to try to repair his image so to speak before he gets released and hits the open market? yes.
Pete Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 yes- in his own words, it certainly is about more than just the numbers. He counts 7mill against the cap whether he's here or not. If you can even get it down to that... Is he worth it if he buys in? Does Rex hold a grudge that he pouted and quit and made him look bad? The Bills may even tear up the contract and do a new one. Who knows. If he buys in, and is willing to redo his contract with a hit under $7million this season, it's a no brainer. The deal would still provide 13million cap relief, and we would not create a hole at DE. This would open up our options on draft day

26CornerBlitz Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Is this a ploy to try to repair his image so to speak before he gets released and hits the open market? Exactly this. Ain't happening in Buffalo and he knows it.
John from Riverside Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I like me some motivated Mario Williams I know the odds are against it......but at a price that helps the bills and an understanding that Mario STFU and give his effort I would keep him We could STILL draft a DL high in this draft and we should

I just don't see how the contract ends up being more efficient than releasing him. I'd rather spend that $12.9m on Glenn's franchise tag than Mario. At the crux of the issue is that Mario hasn't just had some kind of epiphany about playing in a 3-4, not sure what's motivating the comments.
ddaryl Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 If Rex is a defensive genius then he shoudl be able to put Mario in a place to be a wrecking force like he was the year before. From what I see Rex is a one trick pony and can't adapt to the personnel. The league with FA and salary cap means rosters are constantly changing landscapes... Therefore any coach who wants to be great simply has to be adaptable. Rex so far has 0 ability to adapt
Big Turk Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 but still wants Rexy to meet him halfway (no likey dropping back in coverage) I will give him this - he is consistent with his quotes. I think someone re-watched every defensive snap and he dropped maybe 8-10 times total then entire season...he dropped a few times under Scwartz too... I think the biggest issue is there was way too much thinking last year and not enough playing...too many adjustments too many things they had to take into consideration, etc... That line is good enough to just line up and get at them.
BADOLBILZ Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I don't know what Mario will get on the open market....all it takes is one team to be stupid...... but his value to the Bills IMO is about $3M-$4M and that is a serious haircut that I just can't see happening. IMO nothing to see here, as far as this story goes.
26CornerBlitz Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 @ChrisBrownBills Rex- I'd love to have Mario back. How realistic that is, I don't know. A lot of contributing factors there. #Bills

K-9 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 At the right price I'd take him What's the right price for a malcontented quitter? HE should pay for the privilege. G9 BILLS!!!
NorthBuffaloKid Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Let's let the pros handle this one. An interview won't tell us much. How much is he willing to take as far as a cut? Is he willing to adapt? To give his all even if he disagrees? I feel as if he's seen examples of linemen dropping back and is willing to give it a shot. Also, he nay realize that he's not worth that much based on his effort last year and wants to up his value in the market.
Pirate Angel Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Of coarse he is willing, when he is released no one will be offering him that kinda cash. He took his ball and went home last year.. !@#$ him
26CornerBlitz Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 That tells me no. Pretty much. Rex Ryan "I would love to have Mario back" (1:02)Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan talks about the team's defense in 2015 and his desire to have defensive end Mario Williams back in 2016.
