YoloinOhio Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) Cowherd did a good breakdown on Bosa. Watt had equal or better times in all drills of notice while being 30 pounds heavier. He also did 11 more reps on the bench than Bosa. Sure Watt is one of a kind but isn't that an indication that Bosa won't be anything close? I'm glad we aren't in range to pick him, I see a solid player. IMO we could get a better player at 19 than Bosa if the board falls right. why is he being compared to Watt? Different players entirely. As far as weight, he played at 285 or 290. Dropped weight to run fast, he will not be playing at 270. I'm not saying it was a wise decision to get light, I don't know, but it isn't as if he plays at that weight. Edited March 3, 2016 by YoloinOhio

The lazy man says they are talented white DEs with 1st round grades from the Big 10. And, to be clear, I only say white because "high motor" vs "athletically gifted"

With the Combine weight, his athletic comparisons are Jack Crawford and Preston Smith. Cross-racial comps are the devil though.

Blokestradamus Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 And those guys are projected to be drafted where? Crawford was a 5th rounder. Smith was a 2nd rounder.
YoloinOhio Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) Crawford was a 5th rounder. Smith was a 2nd rounder. smith could have gone in the 1st (saw 1st round grades on him last year) and played like a 1st rounderAnd those guys are projected to be drafted where?they were drafted last year While combine number player comparisons are fun, they don't mean much in a vacuum. If Bosa's three years of film didn't say top 5, he wouldn't be projected there. Edited March 3, 2016 by YoloinOhio

I'm not saying the numbers are the know all end all and I'm sure as heck not saying that Bosa is a 5th round prospect...I'm just leery of how he will translate to the NFL physically in terms of playing like the top 5 pick he is projected to be. A player like Lawson has just as much of a chance as being a stud as Bosa does IMO. I think Bosa ends up outside the top 5 while Jack makes it in I hope so. Jack is a beast I wish we were within sniffing distance.
Blokestradamus Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Who will be the team that takes Bosa and leaves Myles Jack on the board? Dallas lol? I think they might leave both on the board and take Zeke Elliott.
YoloinOhio Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 I think they might leave both on the board and take Zeke Elliott. that would be stupid. Jmo. And I love Zeke.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: if Whaley wants to make a Sammy-like trade to go get Jack, I'm absolutely fine with it. 233-lb 'backers that can stun pulling linemen with their punch to bring down a speed back for a loss and also play man-coverage on a slot WR like a top-flight nickel corner don't come around often.

Yes of course Lawson has as much of a chance to be a stud. But each team has to rank them somehow. Edited March 3, 2016 by YoloinOhio
CommonCents Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 why are you leery about him physically or as a top 5 pick? Just curious more than anything really not trying to argue. Yes of course Lawson has as much of a chance to be a stud. But each team has to rank them somehow. I'm not arguing either, just discussing it and enjoying it. Quite a few knowledgable draft guys on this board and it makes it a worth while discussion. Bosa is a fundamentally sound player and as you stated he looks great on film. What I'm leery of is at the next level the smallest amounts of strength and explosiveness matter a lot more than they do in the Big 10. It was concerning when he decided to drop so much weight for the combine. Clearly he wanted to test better than he would at playing weight. A top 5 prospect shouldn't have to do that unless something is lacking. I'm not sure if that's what turned me off on him or if it's the depth and quality of the other options available. Bottom line - he dropped the weight to test better and in relation to his weight he wasn't that impressive. I agree with you on Jack. I wish we didn't have so many parts to replace this offseason it limits Whaley's flexibility. We need more picks not less due to this delayed realization that our LB's don't mesh well with the scheme. That was a mistake.

While this draft is deep at DL, it is moreso in the interior and the EDGE guys are more top heavy. So if a team really wants an EDGE he's the top rated one and there is a bit of a drop off after Spence and Lawson (unless someone wants to take a chance on Nkemdiche in the 1st). At least everywhere I have seen, the draft is not really that deep at EDGE. I think he will end up as a 4-3 DE. That is where he's best utilized IMO. Edited March 3, 2016 by YoloinOhio

YoloinOhio Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) I believe I wrote something similar a few pages back ha... I believe you have written something like this before as well Don't rule out a quarterback in this draft for the Buffalo Bills. While Tyrod Taylor made it to the Pro Bowl, some scouts inside the organization believe he's limited as a long-term starter.
