The rest of the potential 2017 class are far from HOF caliber? Here is another article from Cuba. http://www.thephinsider.com/2016/2/7/10930202/pro-football-hall-of-fame-2017-eligible-players
TakeYouToTasker Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I think arguments can be made for Light and McNabb, but I think you've made a reasonable assessment of the guys there should be zero argument over. LT and Taylor should be first ballot guys. Dawkins should get in on his second attempt.
Saxum Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Ricky Williams should be a first ballot selection in the RHOF (Reefer Hall of Fame). None of the others other than listed (Dawkins, Taylor and Tomlinson) should be first ballot selections and think there are older candidates even more qualified than them.

Mark Vader Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 LaDainian Tomlinson is the strongest candidate, he should be a first ballot. Brian Dawkins is worthy, but he can wait a little, same goes for Jason Taylor. The rest of the list is a bit questionable. I understand the argument for Donovan McNabb, but I'm not 100% sure. Olin Kreutz probably deserves it, but can wait. Chad Johnson?! Ricky Williams?! Tommie Harris?! Please.

There are 37 in the HOF at this time. McNabb, same argument. If McNabb gets Romo will have a case.

I don't see the argument why he should be in. But, open to listen. But, that argument IF it gets any legs is at least 5 years away from being real. Kreutz....interesting. I can see that possibility. But, it will probably if ever be a more serious conversation in 3-5 years. Kreutz is tough because he was much above average for over 10 years. Which is impressive, but, is it anything more than that? I feel like that player compares to Tim Brown or Kevin Greene...are they really HOFers?

Given the times, he gets in. Kevin Greene is third on the all-time sack list. Third. How do you leave him out? i don't want to say Taylor should be a shoe inn. but he is. i don't know if he is in the top 40 defensive lineman of all times, honestly. There are 37 in the HOF at this time. McNabb, same argument. If McNabb gets Romo will have a case. Of course Romo has a case, but he lacks the racial element which pushes McNabb over the top. Taylor was one of the best of his era at his position for an extended period, and was still dominate in his down years. He's a clear inductee.

boyst Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 Must be sarcasm. McNabb should get in before Dawkins. in a modern era where Tony Romo is about to be top 20 all time in passing yards despite.. just don't see it. i think of him as a modern day poor mans Marino.

How many conference championships did Marino and Romo go to....combined? W Who's talking about all time passing yards? Vinnie Testeverdi?

Light, and Kreutz were excellent OL, but not sure if that warrants HOF. I could see Warner, and TO getting in next year, but we'll know in 11 mos.
boyst Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) How many conference championships did Marino and Romo go to....combined? W Who's talking about all time passing yards? Vinnie Testeverdi? http://espn.go.com/nfl/history/leaders/_/stat/tdpasses Maybe Romo wasn't the best comparison. Romo has 34,154 passing yards and 247 TD's. That is just a hair outside of the top 20 in both all time. Bledsoe Philip Riversr might be a better comparison. 284 touch downs, 41,447 yards. Marino 420 TD's, 61,361 yards Edited February 14, 2016 by Boyst62

Plus McNabb's career or at least his good years were quite short by QB standards. Not too many modern era NFL QB's or at least guys since the 80's have gotten in with such a short career. For all intents and purposes he was done by 33. Too many QB's are productive past that point to jusitfy McNabb's induction. That doesn't mean it won't happen though. Over 29 years of fanhood Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) Mcnabb would have a case if he had some rings as he's right in there with Aikman statistically. Absent that, he's wedged behind boomer who has a nearly the same stat sheet. Ironically Kelly looks less immortal next to some of these guys (Matt hassellbeck for 1) Edited February 15, 2016 by over 20 years of fanhood

He played 13 seasons. in 4 of his last 5 he had 3300, 3900, 3600 and 3400 yards per--right were he had been or BETTER than he was in his younger years. Mcnabb would have a case if he had some rings as he's right in there with Aikman statistically. Absent that, he's wedged behind boomer who has a nearly the same stat sheet. Ironically Kelly looks less immortal next to some of these guys (Matt hassellbeck for 1) He took his team to 5 conf championships. It's not just about the numbers. If you have no conf championship appearances, then you have to rely on stats.
