DC Tom
Tell me again how the two examples I laid out aren't clear definitions of activist judgements.....you know....when judges overturn long held legislation....legislated by 435 congressmen, 50 senators and a president overturned by 5 men......but if it fits your POV..... But continue your MO of coming up with nothing of substance....probably fits your life... A Republican wouldn't think they are. Tell us again how you're a Republican... Are you suggesting that unconstitutional legislation becomes constitutional when passed by bipartisan majority? Yes, yes he is. What's more, he can't distinguish "bipartisan majority" from "constitutional amendment," which is so hellaciously stupid that it sickens me he gets an equal say in the governance as sane people. DC Tom
White House has indicated that they will be nominating a replacement, while Repubs want to wait until next president, of course. But the longest Supreme Court confirmation process from nomination to resolution was Judge Brandeis, at 125 days. Obama has 342 days left in office. And Reid has already set the precedent of !@#$ing around with Senate procedure to get the result he wants. No reason the Republican senate won't follow it. Between that, the election, and the authoritarian bent the American populace wants from the presidency, this is going to be a real circus.

TakeYouToTasker
If one side can buy up all the air waves in a local or regional market its just a silly and large advantages and serves the interests of the powerful fewDemonstrate that this has ever come close to happening; then explain in great detail why setting the precedent for government being able to restrict political speech is a good thing in a free and democratic society. boyst
imagine if Obama leaves the seat vacant until the elections - to ensure a Democrat wins - than makes his selection or worse yet, does not make one. and hillary or bernie appoint him. Demonstrate that this has ever come close to happening; then explain in great detail why setting the precedent for government being able to restrict political speech is a good thing in a free and democratic society. How long did it take you to ask that? I don't want anyone infringing on my ten second rule. imagine if Obama leaves the seat vacant until the elections - to ensure a Democrat wins - than makes his selection or worse yet, does not make one. and hillary or bernie appoint him. You know I could see that happening. His name has come up as an appointment. If the seat is still vacant come the fall it will, as gator said , be very interesting. Dems like to campaign on "fear factor". No matter our flaws at least we're not scary like the other guys (Unfortunately I am hearing some say they will vote for Hillary for this reason)...looming supreme court nominee will enhance the fear factor . Damn, I think the meds are starting to kick in. obama would be very smart to delay this as long as he can. its a shame it was not a month or two away for his sake. delay and nominate right before recess. blame republicans for not confirming before recess or coming back to do it. make them look bad. that's his MO. when they return it'll be October, right in time for elections, right in time for him to steal face time from nominees and get his mug on tv just as much as the presidential candidates. this has the potential to be an epic obama storyline. Juror#8
As a post script to my post #53 ... if Obama was really thinking, he would nominate a sitting Senator to the bench like Amy Klobachar (not sure of the spelling). If I was sitting around thinking about how to get someone through post haste, it would be to put forth one of their own as the nominee. This wouldn't work to the left's advantage because it would present a clear issues based opposition. If he goes this route, given the clear transparency of this type of nomination, he goes Liz Warren.

Liz Warren has no financial competence. She's a hard left ideologue, whom if her preferences were enacted, would plunge the country into destitute poverty and war. But, if President Obama were to nominate from the Senate, she should be his obvious choice.
