Juror#8 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) This is not getting any press on the cable news stations but it's circulating around the Internet. Take it for what's it's worth. Hope that it's not true: http://gawker.com/supreme-court-justice-antonin-scalia-reportedly-found-d-1758968327 http://m.mysanantonio.com/news/us-world/article/Senior-Associate-Justice-Antonin-Scalia-found-6828930.php Beginning to be confirmed: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/antonin-scalia-dead_us_56bfa5f7e4b0b40245c6f0d9 Edited February 13, 2016 by Juror#8
Juror#8 Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Also posted in ppp to discuss the political implications. Can't verify the veracity of the claim because it's not confirmed on any cable news network. However it's trending online: http://gawker.com/supreme-court-justice-antonin-scalia-reportedly-found-d-1758968327
Juror#8 Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Wow. An originalist likely to be replaced by an activist judicial figure. The complexion of the highest court in the land is about to change very significantly.
Saxum Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Story is on now on CNN; no choice at work to change channel.
B-Man Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Prayers for him and his family He was a great American.

DC Tom Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 This should get interesting. Can the Senate stall the appointment for 11 months?
B-Man Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Can the Senate stall the appointment for 11 months? Easy. Just invoke the Harry Reid rules....................... What is the longest a seat has been vacant ? They are off June thru October anyway..... . Edited February 13, 2016 by B-Man

Activist like overturning hugely ....actually almost unamimous.... bipartison legislation like campaign finance reform and voter rights laws? Edited February 13, 2016 by baskin
Juror#8 Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Activist like overturning hugely ....actually almost unamimous.... bipartison legislation like campaign finance reform and voter rights laws? Since campaign finance restrictions implicate the first amendment, I'm fairly certain that Scalia's opposition in that regard was not near the type of "activist" that you're suggesting but was rather consistent with his fairly conservative judicial philosophy. DC Tom Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Easy. Just invoke the Harry Reid rules....................... . And then Obama makes the appointment at the podium during a press conference. Actually, I rather hope this happens. It'll show just how far down the authoritarian rabbit hole we've fallen, and might save me from Trumpster diving.
Juror#8 Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Activist like overturning hugely ....actually almost unamimous.... bipartison legislation like campaign finance reform and voter rights laws? And before you start down that road, I'm not even close to a member of the conservative section of judicial philosophies. I'm more Anthony Kennedy than Clarence Thomas.
DC Tom Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Activist like overturning hugely ....actually almost unamimous.... bipartison legislation like campaign finance reform and voter rights laws? Tell us again how you're a Republican...
tomato can Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Easy. Just invoke the Harry Reid rules....................... What is the longest a seat has been vacant ?
