PromoTheRobot
Third paragraph: http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-kings-50-years-elliott-20160209-9-column.html Are you allowed to own an NFL team and an NHL team? Better not let Roger Goodell find out about Terry & Kim. Edited February 9, 2016 by PromoTheRobot
KD in CA
Ralph owning the LA Kings? That might have worked out well for the fans in Edmonton.
May Day 10
I would have to say that is incorrect. The Knoxes bid on expansion and Buffalo was unjustly bypassed for St. Louis.
PastaJoe
It's possible, Ralph wanted to put the football team in Miami, but because of stadium issues settled for Buffalo. The current rule (I think NFL) is that an owner can have teams in multiple sports if they are in the same city. That's why when the Bills were for sale, if Jeremy Jacobs wanted to buy the Bills, he had to sell the Bruins or have his children take ownership. ChasBB
Oh no, we traded Kareem Abdul Jabbar for draft picks and we let Magic Johnson go to free agency - Ralph is cheap - ah, what could have been. Oh, nm, wrong sport. Edited February 9, 2016 by ChasBB
KollegeStudnet
I'll have to look it up. I forgot when it changed, I want to say it changed in the 80's, but you could own franchises from different sports in different towns. Edit: Rule changed happened in 1997, after Paul Allen purchased the Seahawks, who was already an owner of the Trailblazers. May Day 10
How would it have effected Edmonton? Am I missing something? Bruce mcnall they spent loads of money and were aggressively raiding the Oilers dynasty including gretzky
KollegeStudnet
why would the owners even care? I agree. If I recall it went along the lines of billionares who would not be interested in their NFL team if they had other teams in different sports in different cities. I'll look into more details later when I get home.
