nodnarb Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 this will save 2 roster spots, won't it? Can't a team carry 53 plus IR and PUP? certainly losman won't be ready by week 6...we could at least pup him, right? anyone....?
Guest Answer Man Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 This has been answered many time but I'll answer it again. You can not put someone how PUP list if they have passed a physical and were active in training camp and/or preseason.
Lori Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 Correct, Answer Man. Here's a relevant passage: "NFL rules allow teams to designate players as "Physically Unable to Perform." Once they are designated as such, they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, they can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player is not allowed to be placed on the PUP list if they start training camp on the active roster." http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/DET/5547626
Guest Answer Man Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 I posted the exerpt a few times already. Too bad this board does not have a FAQ.
nodnarb Posted September 4, 2004 Author Posted September 4, 2004 m'okay...must have missed all the prev. posts. so how about the possibility of an injury settlement with brown, and bringing him back in at week 5/6 or whenever he's truly ready? possible?

He does not have so many skills to be useful to the team without intimate knowledge of playbook. Besides on an injury settlement, the player can not come back until at least week 10.
Kelly the Dog Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 The injury settlement doesnt allow Brown to attend meetings or come back until after week 10, which is what they did last year with him. He can sign with another team though anytime, I believe, just not the team that waives him. That is also what happened with Christie a couple years back.
The Jokeman Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 No. While they could come it up with an injury settlement Brown could not participate in meetings and supposedly that is important to coaching staff. He does not have so many skills to be useful to the team without intimate knowledge of playbook. Besides on an injury settlement, the player can not come back until at least week 10. 18467[/snapback] Partially right, the player can not return to the team he had the settlement with until week 10, however he can sign and play on any other team before week 10.
Guest Answer Man Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 Yes thank you for clarification with more details. I tried to keep it simple. That was the reason why Christie on injury settlement could go to Chargers.
